Military Enlistment

Well, I've given up making puppets on the shroomery, so I figure I'll just leave my progress here for anyone who cares. Maybe someone will relay the information back to the shroomery to the few that care to hear about it.
Here's the time-line so far.
02/22/16: Met with USMC recruiter for the first time, took a pre-ASVAB test, passed 02/24/16: Met with USMC recruiter at a closer location, hashed things over 02/29/16: Met with USMC recruiter, filled out medical paperwork, copied social security card and birth certificate, filled out basic paperwork, selected "Taoism" for religious preference
Now I'm just waiting for them to clear my medical history, and then I'll be headed to MEPS hopefully within 1-2 weeks. From there it will likely end up being around 8 months till I ship out to boot camp.
P.S. it was funny when he asked about the religious preference, he was like, "I usually just put everyone under Christian." I was like, "Nah I'd rather be classified Taoist.", he was like, "Wtf is taoist?" Anyways, all I know is that if I get dead oversees at least I'll have a yin-yang over my grave instead of a fucking cross. lol

I have both my grandpaps dog tags. They listed your religion on them. I could see how that might be a problem with what is going on now days. I probably would have "mushroomed" the recruiter and said stamp N/A on that tag. "I believe in my hog tooth sir, stamp that on there".

Yeah that's what I figured. That why I selected Taoism. I mean out of all the "religions" out there, Taoism makes the most sense to me. Plus if I get killed I'll get a badass yin-yang on my military tombstone. lol

You win the game, if you don't get killed. You're gonna want to win this game, a yin yang grave you'll never see is a bunk consolation prize.

True that. Here's some fucked up news though... Turns out I might be disqualified because of my chest. I have a concaved chest... Apparently some people were able to get waivers for it back in 2011, but I have a feeling in today's military climate getting a waiver is going to be near impossible...
What does this mean? Means I might be rat-fucked out of the military...

The shroomery's downfall has been/will be it's chosen mods. I think it's safe to say the "glory days" are far past. It's defiantly taken a turn, and the one man who is supposed to keep things regulated is off sucking a bong somewhere.. there is no structure, accountability. It's kind of just become half assed "wild west" scenario.
Which is kind of a shame, because the potential of what could be, given the matter dealt with at hand and the format already in place... could have led somewhere. But.. like so many times in this life, the 'infrastructure' crumbles and goes to shit once it gets comfortable..

Couldn't have said it better myself bro. But hey, let's be honest, the site's been around for nearly two decades. That's a pretty good accomplishment; I'm surprised it's lasted so long actually. Shame is that more people seem to be dabbling in psychedelics, which is leading to more membership, but yeah, the moderation is terrible in my opinion. People can't take a joke, and people are banned for near-to-nothing, yet others who have mods in their pockets don't get banned for shit.
I just wish the growery was more active, because from what I've seen the mods here are chill as fuck.
But yeah I don't know, I've searched for other forums that are as active and diverse and open to psychedelics and more 'off-topic' discussion as on the shroomery, but I've yet to find anything that comes even close.
I honestly think a big part of the problem is the atmosphere of the drug community in general though. There is such an intense wave of die hard politically-correct people and then there are those who seem to be die-hard conservatives. Basically Koods vs Prisoner, etc etc. Maybe it's because it's election season?
All I know is it seemed pretty fucking hard to find many users who were moderate. Seemed like a combination of older users dedicated to their political parties, and then younger users who don't really know shit and thus automatically differ to the extreme-liberalism because of college.
There also seemed to be a significantly large percentage of users that were severe addicts. People addicted to either uppers or downers, and that seemed to really exacerbate a lot of the negativity and conflict on the forum as well. Then there were the groups of drama-queens and snitches; treant, vinsue, rrv2, etc. that really did a lot of damage to the board in general imo.
Oh well. Fuck it. I've given up on making puppets on that bitch.

So here's another little update; so far I've yet to go to MEPS (the place they screen you basically) and I'm starting to have second thoughts, again, as to whether I should join the Marines or just go Air Force.
I mean for the most part the only thing the Marines have going for them is 'style' and the fact that they are perceived as more 'gangster'; other than that everything else is shittier than pretty much all of the other branches, especially the air force. Not to mention, in the air force you can pick you job, in the Marines you only get to pick your field.
From quite a few sources of Marines in the infantry apparently it is fucking terrible and sucks extremely bad; they mention that combat is one of the most exhilarating things they've ever experienced, but that's not likely to even happen again for a while, also they have the whole pride thing of being badass, and they talk about how after long training exercises in the field there's a type of pride there too for having undergone a lot of hardship. But I mean, I don't know if that shit is really worth it.
If I go Air Force, I'll be in a job that was ranked in the top 10 most happiest jobs in 2012. Also I'd be able to pick my job, which would likely be a car mechanic, which would give me experience for when I get out. Also the Air Force apparently has the best housing, food; basically everything in the Armed Serviced. And HST actually served in the Air Force...
Last but not least, I'm a small motherfucker, I'm 125lbs 5'5'', and I have slight color-vision issues and a slight concave chest, I just don't think I was built for the Marines. I mean I think I could do it if I really wanted to, but I don't know if I really want to that much...
Shit. I think I'm going to change branches. Advice?

Hopefully Sleepaid will have stuck around long enough to reply but from an outsider and strictly objective point of view it seems silly to get hung up on a name or a title just for the sake of it, when everything else would be better with a different title.

Yeah that's pretty much what I've been thinking. I'm kind of thinking my only reasoning for joining the Marines is more or less a sense of insecurity, and that I need to prove something and so joining the Marines would be like the biggest way to do that. But I'm starting to realize that may be pretty foolish.

Yeah. I'm relatively smart. Got 90s percentiles all my GED areas (yeah I know it's a GED, it's exactly the same as the high school exit exam though) Also I had like a 3.5 GPA in my 3 years of high school and my 1.5 years in college. lol
Not a genius, but I'd say I'm relatively smart.

That really didn't answer my question on what your practice asvab score was. Also I know the navy requires you to have a certain amount of college credit if you graduated with GED or tier ii school (I.e. adult school). Being the marines is part of the navy I would think it would be the same. Though when I was thinking of enlisting 4 minths ago my recruiter had my do some online stuff that I didn't need college credit. Since I got my diploma from a adult school.

Yeah Marines and Air Force require 15 college credits if you have a GED. I have more than that. As for my pre-asvab score, the recruiter said it was a 69. Not sure if that's out of a 100 or what though. I've been taking some full-length practice asvab tests at home though too, highest average so far has been ~80% correct. So I'm pretty confident I have the intelligence to get in.
So you did you end up enlisting?

69 is pretty good. Not sure what the minimal score for the AF is but its 50 for the navy. And nah in the end I didn't score high enough for the jobs I would be interested in.

Yeah same for the Marines. They said 50 was minimal. Bro you should try and get an asvab prep book and just study it! It brought my score from a 60% to a 80% correct.

I sent you a PM, 336.
In regards to the ASVAB, you'll get a higher score on the actual ASVAB than on the practice test, you can count on that. Your General Technical (GT) score will play a huge part in what jobs you qualify for.
For example, most special operations dudes are expected to have a 110 GT or higher in order to even qualify. When you're in, your GT score gets brought up way more than your actual ASVAB score.

You may well just end up 'proving to yourself' that you will do things against your better judgement and can endure the consequences of a bad decision.
This is a complicated decision for anyone, but it helps a lot to put into context what you're musing about here.

How's your bullet placement? If I were to do it over again I would stick strictly for sniper. They love us country boys who learned to hit a specific hair on a deer before we could ride a bike. Other than that, I doubt I'd want anything to do with it.
If that didn't work, air force mechanic is where I would shoot for. Us country boys have another thing in common, go cart, quad, dirt bike, truck tinkering. Building shit.
That's me though. You need to really search yourself, and get a good idea of what will be asked of you, you know. Thinking on your toes. The questions your asking will most likely be the easiest puzzle you'll ever have to solve once you get the ball rolling.

We generally hate people who show up thinking they know how to shoot. They are typically full of bad habits and it is much harder to re-train someone than it is to teach a blank slate.

Your father's experience isn't yours, and neither is it my experience. And my experience is that people who show up sounding like you generally can't shoot for shit, but think they can, and are much harder to re-train because of the ego they've developed over a skill they don't actually have.

Stop being a fucking dick, that would be your first mistake right there. All I said was I could place a bullet. Your ego over the course of three or so posts, said I cant. So I said figuratively, I'll give you a run, I'll buy the beer and we can hit the farm, see who can tag a jug first.
Now you call me a hero. Brother man, I'm the last Goddamn soul on this earth, that would refer to myself as any kind of hero.
But it would beehoove you, to knock those predetermined psychological profiles out of your brain, that kind of thinking will have your ass in a corner.
I don't know who you are, where you came from and frankly at this point I don't give a measured weight of flying rats ass monkey jizzm.
You be the hero. Who am I to stand in your way.... right?

Stop being a fragile bitch, Amanita. I said literally three words outside of my response to you bringing your daddy into this. Clearly I'm not used to talking to men as delicate as you. I deeply apologize and will make sure to give you all the respect you think your daddy earned you, ok buddy? OK.

Now can we get back on topic? I'm just gonna use the ignore function on Amanita. This is 336's topic about trying to get into the military. It's like no matter what topic I'm actually in it's just the same stream of Amanita having a melt down. It's really pathetic and I'm starting to feel bad about it. I'm not trying to be a dick, I was actually thinking about it earlier driving home and I'm really starting to consider that whoever Amanita actually is, might actually be someone with some kind of sickness and I really don't want to be bullying a disabled kid and stressing someone out in real life like that. Just starting to feel sorry for the guy and I'm not having fun anymore. It's like fighting a wet paper bag with a rake and I don't want to fuck with him anymore, I actually really hope he ends up finding help somewhere and gains a better relationship with his self-esteem.

Oh, Shitty.
Well anyway, sorry for muddying up your thread and sorry I basically wrote you a fucking book as a PM, that may not have been what you were asking for I got kind of sucked into it while I was writing it for some reason and I realized after it may not have actually answered specifics you may have been concerned about.
If you have anymore technical questions about the enlistment process or MEPS let me know. I don't come here for the bs arguments, there's a couple of good people on this forum and I come here for them.

No problem bro. It's all good. I finally got around to replying, I would have sooner, but I just wanted to have enough time to write a proper response.

Hella racist!
YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU BRO!
We're both a couple crazy fucks.
But brown bottles don't mix well with Red skin bro! Trust me, my mom's an alcoholic and she can't handle her liquor worth a dime and she's only part native. And my grandfather? Hell the family tries to keep it hushed up so I can only imagine how crazy he was when he was drinking. Somehow he managed to stop though... (probably when he started getting prescribed vics and oxys lol)
I understand though man. People try and forget history, especially those who weren't on the receiving end. But deep down our spirits' still feel the pain of our ancestors. I'm almost positive that is one of the leading causes of substance abuse in the native communities tbh.

"Ancestors" makes it sound like this was all a long time ago.
http://itccs.org/mass-graves-of-children-in-canada-documented-evidence/
"Based on this information, the GPR survey began on the grounds immediately east of the building, on hilly and uneven terrain where school survivor Geronimo Henry reported seeing children buried in the early 1950′s."

True that. The atrocities have continued all the way up until at least the 70s and perhaps even later. I mean they were purposefully sterilizing native women up til that and perhaps even later... Not to mention the countless cases of native women being abducted, raped, and murdered by whites because the police didn't give two shits and rarely bothered to investigate. Or the kids that are still being stolen from families on the rez by adoption agencies who have been proven to be running scams as the government literally pays these agencies more money per native child than other children... Shit is fucked up; and that's just scratching the surface.
