First grow. Bag seed

Last Sunday my best friend gave me about 15 seeds he got in a bag that his cousin had bought. He said the bud was pretty good but couldn't tell me what strain and couldn't tell me indica or sativa. So I guess that will be a good surprise. There were a couple seeds that were crap so I only have 12 now. I soaked them in water over night, left them in a damp paper towel the rest of Monday and planted them Monday night after work. So far 7 have sprouted. I'm hoping for just one female out of the bunch. If I get more than one I'm going to spread the love with some friends.

That soil looks really wet, just saying! Also, unless the grower somehow let their female plants be pollinated by a male, there's a good chance what you have are actually feminized seeds from a plant that hermied and pollinated itself and/or ladies. So I'd guess likely all females. I'll be surprised if they aren't, I've only ever found feminized bag seed; you can even sometimes find the hermie parts on the same nugs the seeds are in.

Sure they'll be "female" but they will also turn Hermie eventually. Which is bad mkay.

I don't think you can say without a doubt that they will hermie, but I agree, there's always that chance. :P

Yah I misted the crap out of it before I left for work because sometimes I'll be at work for 10-13 hours. Hey, but for free seeds if I just get one female that doesn't turn hermie I'm more than happy. Its all about getting the experience for me.

Aw, well I'm sure it'll work out, just try not to over water or stress them out. while it isnt ideal, even hermied, seedy weed will have cannabinoids.

Next time use a mh light or more tubes. Yeah they look ok but they are reaching for the light cause floro tubes to put it mildly suck. They need more then 40 watts of light.
You want them more like this in a few weeks.
To sum up this long load of crap just give em more light cause they look healthy but long stems make them much more fragile.

Thanks. I knew I had to get another light, I just can't decide which kind. I've been reading the medical growers bible. The plants are on a 18/6 light cycle Any suggestions for good cost effective/efficient light?

t5 fluorescent lights are great cheap and cost effective. I have seen beautiful plants from them as long as you keep your reflector clean and good bulbs in them. You can keep them close to the plants and it keeps energy costs down compared to a HPS light.

I have one t5 over them right now. I can buy more like the one I have and chain them together, how many would be sufficient for flowering? I still plan on giving some to friends so I'd probably have 2 or 3 plants if the majority are female.

To figure out how many lights you will need in your room there are several questions we will need to know the answers to. How many plants are you wanting to flower at one time? How big is the room you have to flower the plants? What does your budget look like? If you want the maximum possible yield I would recommend t5 for clone/veg and transfer them to a HPS for flowering.

Well I took out 2 plants that looked pretty weak. I plan to Flower 2 at once. I'm growing in a closet. Budget is between up to $200.

I had to leave town today all day and was uncomfortable leaving my light on without someone here just in case so they only got about 4-5 hours of light today, from what I read I think they are in or close to veg stage. How harmful can screwing with the light cycle one day be? I understand it can stunt growth and take a bit to resume, but at only a few weeks old would the lack of light force them into flowering, stunt them, or straight up kill them? They are starting to get a bit stinky. Still no clue on sex yet, And now I'm down to 5 plants. A couple seemed to be dying out while the others were doing fine so I tossed them. I'm watering when the top inch of soil is almost completely dry, haven't given any nutes, and they are getting at least 16 hours of light a day from the t5. Got some nice paychecks coming so I will be getting a new light and some nutes shortly. Any body have any idea what is going on with the two plants in the third pic? They don't seem to be doing as well as the others but they are getting everything else the other 3 plants are. Weak genetics? Late bloomers? They are smaller so further away from the light...

They look fine to me. For veg you want your lights either 18/6 or 24/0 (I do 24/0). If you're worried about leaving your lights on when you're not home then you shouldn't be growing weed because they are always on lol you'd be a hermit. I understand though I think about it sometimes too but unless you want to be home 24 hours all day every day you shouldn't worry about it so much. Put the lights on a timer and don't fuck with them.
