Bought my first skateboard today

So i had friends in high school that skated, and i hung out at the local skate park a lot but mainly just to chill and smoke. I was more into bmx and never owned my own board, though my brother did and I would ride my friends from time to time.
Well im almost 27 and got my first board today. Went to the local shop and got a blank complete. I dont plan on doing tricks, i just wanted it for getting around school faster and to skate to work since i live nearby and drive a big ass truck that pisses away gas.
Im pretty excited about it none the less...anyone else here skate? Any tips for noobz?

I used to skate a lot and then I fucked up my knee and now I'm too old and fat. I let myself slip away during my recovery and I never fully recovered. I miss it every day.
My advice is to not second guess yourself. Try to flow with it, and be aware of your surroundings. Sometimes a crash is coming. Learn to roll with it rather than against it and everything will be good.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

Lmao this sounds like myself. My friends were egging me on to drop into a halfpipe when I was in high school. The first time was a free fall and the second time I almost made it but I flipped backwards and the board gave me a black eye when it came back down.
I loved BMX and street with a bike back in the day. Then my bitch step mother sold my bike for crack
How was it to skate again after so much time? I was thinking about getting a longboard myself, and I'm sure I will break my ass learning how to use it again lol.

You can't take more bong rips than me and...good choice with the trick deck it will be harder at first to ride hills although u can replace trucks. Wheels. bearings . Truck risers which are the pads Goin between deck and trucks I recommend stiff trucks and hard bearings they seem to get most out of your kick push and coast while riding on flat ground..do u ride regular or goofy.. I find regular stance easier to olly while I'm moving even tho I ride Longboards goofy mango meaning right foot in front while kicking with front right foot reaching speeds of 30 mph+ ...and then eating shit ...If u don't get road rash u ain't trying hard enuff .. you will realize once u become enlightened skater , all hills have a certain grade or angle with which u descend and u reach a terminal velocity or max speed of about maximum of 35 mph and that is the steepest mofo u will find its not like u will ever reach 60 mph on a skateboard and have potential to die ..wear helmet ..elbow.. knee guards ...2 sweatshirts jeans sweatpants over that..oh and smoke weed

Bmx was my shit.
I rode a 98' GT performer. I eventually got into dirt jumping, but still used the GT. It was a bit on the heavy side and I had to shave down the bars a bit, but I def got some air with it.

I was eating questionable sushi, close enough. All I know about wheel sports is in the 80's/90's you weren't shit if you didn't have pegs on your bike.
And I think roller bladers and skateboarders have a beef or something. It's a huge cause of gun violence in my country. D.A.R.E. told me.

I'm about as into gaming as you can get, and I think that shit is fucking ridiculous.
"Lol lets watch someone else play fucking video games." That was what you did while you waited your turn back when, and it sucked dick. That's why we have multiplayer that allows like a zillion people to play at once.
Although fighting games are kinda fun to watch other people play. Only because I really really suck at them.

Fuck yea bud! I skated for about a decade but I stopped a couple years ago when I fucked up my ankle at the park. Just couldn't afford to get hurt like I could when I was young. I heard the owner of my favorite skate shop back in the day just opened a new spot though, I'll probably go buy a board from him.
My only advice is don't push mongo because only fucking assholes do that. And watch out for cracks and tiny pebbles because they WILL fuck you up.

Fruit booters vs. Wood pushers
I was good at both. I started rollerblading when i was like 4 and probably could have gone pro but I quit when I was like 13 and took up skateboarding. Skateboarding is so much more challenging and a lot funner.

yo Cheeze. I've been reading that bamboo decks have a long life but that's kinda biased cos I ride one. It all depends on the kind of cruising you're trying do.
Ben's board is pretty sweet for cutting corners or swiveling side to side as you wouldn't get any bite from the board.

Kudos to the skaters out there. I'm more of a bmx person and am most comfortable on two wheels. Skateboards i could never get the hang of.
Ever use a ripstick? Those are a lot of fun.

Have fun with it man, just be safe. I would get some bones bearings and quality cruising wheels if you're really trying to cruise around with minimal pushing.
Skating is life! This is my cruising baby:
Dude, I have that exact same board, and have had for close to 5 years, jesus I would not think I'd ever see it posted on a forum.
It rides so smooth.
Ha nice!!!! Hell yea the shape is reminiscent of a surf board and the ride is soooo butter.
What kind of bearings are you rocking??
I originally got the board because I loved the typography on it but immediately fell in love with everything about it.

same... ive owned a few skate boards the years. Just never could get the hang of it. wake boarding or snowboarding on the other hand....
I recently found a nice independent board laying in the middle of the street. I decided to take it, I gave it to my nephew last week "dont break your neck bro"

Just stock, I haven't been to a board shop since, but I'm thinking I should, swiss bones I hear are really good, any suggestions?

Swiss bones are the best for speed cruising IMO. A bit pricey though.

@po Everyone knows people start snowboarding because they sucked at skating...
Actually these days that's what Longboards are all about...
@ Harri I've been planning on getting some bones Swiss ceramics for my cruiser, best way to go if that's all your using it for, gets a little too hardcore for me on any real incline tho. Also hate them for my regular decks, just feels way to unstable landing on your board all sketch and shit

I just recently started using a long board for transportation, that and my knees are getting too old for anything else.

Hell yes, seems so liberating. Plus imagine riding a giant wave with a head full of acid.

that;s awesome man
just be careful with the small rocks and cracks on the asphalt. they can be a real bitch.
ive been skating on and off for more than 10 years now, but it;s been awhile since i;ve had a skateboard. i am dying to get one tho. skateboarding is funtastic.
doesnt matter what age u are, i;ve seen folks as old as like 60 skateboarding at the skate parks. shit is timeless.
