Forbes looked at how much marijuana costs in each state and concluded, "They warned us this would happen."
The price of an ounce of weed, sold either through a legal dispensary or on the black market, is cheapest in states where recreational marijuana use is legal.
Louisiana, on the other hand, is the 6th most expensive state in which to buy marijuana -- $359 an ounce, according to the article. It costs at least $20 more to buy weed in Louisiana than it does in other southern states, including Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. An ounce of marijuana is cheapest in Oregon, where it costs $204; it's the most expensive in North Dakota, where it costs $387.
The prices suggest lax marijuana laws could correlate to cheaper prices. Louisiana has some of the toughest marijuana laws, but legislation moving through the Louisiana Legislature might result in lowering penalties for possession.
Weed prices could have possibly taken a dive had a proposal in Louisiana to legalize marijuana for recreational use passed this year. But sensing there was no chance for support among his colleagues, the sponsor of that bill tabled his own legislation.
SleepAid's Notes: Posting because, I thought it was funny Forbes was reporting this. Also it's connected to a Louisiana legislation article I'm posting right after.
