Dabbing: should vapor be filtered by water like smoke?

Hi, everyone. This is my first post. I didn't really know where to place the topic, but hopefully here is a good place to get my question answered. I dab frequently and haven't smoked flower in a long time. When I smoked flower, however, I used a Mobius piece that diffused smoke very well because I firmly believe that water filtration delivers smoother smoke and irritates my lungs a lot less.. Anyways getting back to the topic. I took a dab out of my piece (I use a small tea cup 2 hole bubbler) without the water and the vapor wasn't much hotter and didnt irritate my lungs anymore then when I use water. So how do you guys feel about using water when dabbing? Do you think it's better to just use dry pieces?

Seems like all water dose is cool the smoke and keep ash out. I still always use a bong while dabbing thou. I'm paranoid of getting hot ash in my lungs.

if you're dabbing there shouldn't be any ash...
@ OP I haven't really noticed a difference when using no water.

Look at your bong water after takeing a fat dab. Dabs aren't %100 THC and I'm afraid I might get those little micro burnt ash in my lungs.

You obviously have real low quality wax. I could (but don't) leave my rig without changing the water for days or weeks, and the water, aside from reclaim material, will still be very clean. Find a better source.
To the OP: it depends on the size of the dabm but I don't see much of a difference.

I use water when dabbing because the piece I got a deal on is designed to use water with it...
I use a quartz banger so there's very little chance of any sediment going anywhere but the bottom corner of the bowl anyhow.

I had to show the guy at the store that Nectar Collectors are made to be used with water. His mind was blown.

I'm amazed you missed the opportunity to say SleazeAIDS. Tut tut.
I was shopping for a hunting/plinking rifle most of the day, am being torn between a savage hoghunter .308, Howa LSI heavy barrel .308, or a rugar gunsite scout (With a limited edition maple stock, not one of the laminate or synthetics). I typed a solid paragraph about my dilemma but realized that this particular crowd might not give much of a shit about such things and didn't want to derail the thread.
But anyway, leaning towards the savage arms model.

Savage does make remarkable out-of-the box triggers. I'm likely to order one in the next three days I think. Would love to pick up one of those rugars in the future though.

I agree.
water just cools it down. If youre using a micro rig sometimes theyre so small the heat from the hot ass nail will irritate your throat.

When I take large dabs it's not uncommon that I'm left with an ashy sediment. I assumed it was from it cooling down too quickly before it all burned off or something. (edit, some of it is quite black so I'm actually almost certian it's just cooling off to quickly and realize it is not actually 'ash'. I just thought I might clarify since the original post might be slightly easy to misinterpret)

I have a hard time believing that anyone might have any difficulties arising from said sediment but the dab rig I own now is the only one I have owned and am otherwise fairly unversed with BHO. For all I know it happens with smaller waterless rigs but...

He clearly said it's not ash, but a residue that's left on the nail from it cooling too quickly. I use a domeless Ti nail, and this isn't a problem. Nails darken over time, but I've never seen ash/particulate (aside from a reclaimable hash byproduct) in any rig. Get better hash, kid.

I thought he was trolling. I've never seen ash in the water from dabbing. I also use a domeless Ti nail too though.

No need to rule out trolling, I just figured the shit I was seeing may be what he was referring to- but there's a number of other things that could be going on here, including someone having difficulty understandably translating their experience into text.

Maybe I just feel like the hotness of the smoke is hot ash. Often times I'll be smokeing my Vape Mod and all of a sudden I feel like I just sucked up ashes even tho the cotton isn't burning.

The conclusions that I've come to are as follows: 1) the larger the dab, the more filtering it through water will help ease the hit, 2) The smaller the rig the more important it is to have water in the process to ease the hit. I use a mobius to smoke out of too. I've got a quartz pukin beagle nail hooked up to a d-nail. Every once in a while I will take a dab without water and its not much of a difference. But this is because it's an average sized rig. However, if i took a giant dab out of it without any water in it I would probably cough like crazy. With water it wouldn't hit so hard. Conversely, I've also tried using a really tiny little oil burner (crack pipe) with no water in it and it was really harsh and made me cough with just a tiny, tiny dab. There's definitely a difference, imo.
Also, that ash talk is so ludicrous it's not even worth mentioning, other than to say "stop dabbing 'full melt' and start dabbing bho."

I concur.. Furrowedbrow answered the question adequetly. The vapor can be hot (not harsh, quality bho is smooth) and irritate the throat. The size of the rig I think doesn't matter too much. Like I said I use a small 3 hole tea cup rig (shorter in height then an HE dabber standing upright on the carb cap) and the water cools it enough for me. Nothing too fancy, but I have to say taking a dab out of my möbius really made my dab taste flat and the best word for it 'stale'. Too much filtration it tastes off for sure. So I think water can be detrimental to your vapor experience in some cases.

I think its like the old adage about enjoying more at the moment but at the expense in the long run.... sure the hits r better but sumtimes we just triple filter our shatter for ruined reclaim
