Just imagine... an alien world of comparatively shorter evolutionary history. Land plants have only been around a few hundred million years. Vascular and seeded flora has just emerged. Angiosperms have yet to be seen (flowering plants). Soils have, however, been developed nicely by favorable geological conditions. Suddenly, extra terrestrial travelers appear! One of them has in their pocket the equivalent of a genetic nuclear bomb. A highly developed and complex angiosperm, a photosynthetic powerhouse, Cannabis sativa! He drops a few among the rudimentary flora. The cannabis takes quickly, and within a few years the lack of competitors or predators has resulted in a population explosion! Eventually the entire world is a "sea of green".

The scientific method is nothing more than a tool for examining the world around us. Thinking anything different is just misconception or attributing something that isn't there. It's up to other pursuits, such as philosophy, to integrate the knowledge obtained through that examination into morals and whatnot.
I'd just as well rather make a religion out of my crescent wrench.
