Thought I would start a new thread on this.

The problem I was having, unstable pH . I was having to adjust the pH every 4 to6 hours. It keep going up.
Filled a bucket with 5 gal's of water and started testing once a day to see if pH would stabilize.
12-11-14(tested twice this day) 4pm pH 7, ppm 300, temp 70f
8pm pH 8, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-12-14 pH 8, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-13-14 pH 8, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-14-14 pH 8, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-15-14 pH 8, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-16-14 pH 8.5, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-17-14 pH 8.5, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-18-14 pH 8.5, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-19-14 pH 8.5, ppm 300, temp 70f
12-20-14 pH 8.5, ppm 300, temp 58f I let the room go unheated over night.
Looks like tap water is stable by itself.
Tommow I will pH down to 5.8 or 6 pH
Can't wait to see if the adjusted water holds the change.

It jumped a full point in 4 hours on the first day?
Any idea what the 300ppm in your tap is made up of? I wonder if it's possible that the high number of solids in your tap is contributing to the more alkaline pH.

Your water has a hard on for a pH of 8 it's alkaline as hell. Either that, or you have Clorox bleach fumes from your air or something else like that is absorbing into your water along with your lungs.

What are you using as your ph down? Ive seen people have this issue when they try using the citrus flakes for ph down. Could also be caused by whatever is in your tap water, it could have a good amount of bicarbonates in it.

i have had these ph anomaly's happen before supposedly for a soil mix its common knoledge to run with a ph of 6.5 ,well for me i could never dial straight soil or soilless in, some how 5.4 found me using 454510 promix ,soil, perlite ,been doing that for years now,just now it looks like im having success using a promix.
currently my dwc goes from around 5.8 to 6.6 over a 24 hour period and i just down as needed , seems like much compared to other reports !

12-22-14
At 7:30 am I put 2 drops of GH pH down into the 5 gal's of water.
That took the pH down to 4
At 2pm the pH is 6
I also use GH pH drops.

2 drops brought it down 4.5 pH?
It takes my water like 2mL to go from 7 to 5.9

another problem i have had is my ph meter would start jumping around then once i plugged it in im another location in the house it would go back normal .im not sure what kind of a meter you have but try the test in another location in your place.

Need some input, over a day (24 hours) and the pH just keeps climbing back to up.
dmtcorey, I don't use meters. I use GH pH drops. No charging needed.

Sounds like you need a new water source. Municipal water supplies tend to be highly alkaline to prevent the pipes from rusting out, and will keep your pH buffered high, around 8. Try using an RO filtered water (you can buy RO water at walmart by the gallon, just bring a jug in or buy an empty right next to the machine) and see how that responds.
Are you testing your tap water at 300 PPM? I have extremely hard water that leaves a white crust on everything that test at 150ppm. That will be a lot of energy absorption power, and it will take a long while for the buffer to run out.
So to recap, you are fighting the buffer in the water.

Sorry for taking so long to get back. Caught a virus.
Did the cal/mag and it dropped the pH to 6 for less than 12 hours.
Next to get some RO water.

pH is a high 5
ec/ppm does not even show up on the Bluelab
water temp is 62f

EC is not showing because the water is probably not able to conduct electricity. Distilled water will not conduct water, in theory if you had pure water you could submerge a motherboard in and still work. It takes the dissolved ions like salts to be able to conduct electricity.
Try adding a bit of Ca/Mg (150ppm?) to the RO water and see how it changes how much pH- you need. It should act as a buffer and require more pH adjust. But if you keep adding pH-, then all of a sudden the buffer will run out and the pH should change drastically.

I have the same issue. Especially bad when switching to organics. I upgraded my growonix scrubber with a kdf filter and it helped but really it seems like ro really may be the way to go. Small batch nutes is the only way I combat the issue now. I'm curious to see your results.

About 15 hours later
pH is 6.5 or just a little less. Some yellow tint showing up.
Still no ec/ppm
temp is 60f
After my work day is over I'll add some cal/mag.
Its feeling like I might have found heaven.
