$195 for the torch.
Still need bottles, fuel, regulators, hoses, a bunch of tools, shades, a kiln, ventilation.
And of course, a bunch of borosilicate glass. I hope I can afford to buy glass when I get enough gear together to play around.

I do. I have been using a RedMax for about 10 years. I love it. I started with pipes. Now its mostly ornaments, vases, bird feeders and stuff.

The red max with the top burner looks bad ass. I want one too.
Even if I never make money ill make cool shit. Im realistic in that way.
Do you have an oxygen concentrator? Seems like that's the only way to go money wise.
The GTT Bobcat is back ordered so Im still shopping.
The longer it takes to find one the better money I can put up. Iv been watching for a while.

Yes, mine has the top warmer. Good for small work.
I just do the big bottles. They last me a while as a casual hobbyist. I'm not familiar with the concentrators. Now that you mention it, I will have to look it up.

Big bottles? Whoa sounds bitchin! An oxygen concentrator probable wont give you the horsepower of bottled gas but sure saves on the money. More than likely one would only run your topfire.

I used to make glass pipes and the materials and rent were a small fraction of my income. You are mainly paying for someone's time when you buy glass. It's dangerous. You get cut and burned a little bit every day. Be careful and don't work too much in one day and take breaks. We used to make a pipe and smoke a bong hit... Repeat.

Good advice. Also, be sure to wear good glasses, because that light is intense and can really hurt you. And I have loaners on hand for friends who like to watch.
If you are going to fume with gold and silver, use good ventilation to pull air out of your room - not just move it around inside. I installed an attic fan that I bought for $5 at a Goodwill Restore in my garage. It pulls hard enough that I can watch incense smoke from my torch area get dragged straight to it.

cool thread! I'm just starting to get a real interest in melting glass. I haven't taken a class and have never even touched a torch/glass rod. So, I guess that's my first step.
Anyone want to share their work with us here?
