The things I think about...
    #728410 - 04/29/14 08:33 PM (10 years, 7 months ago)

Some of the stuff I tend to think/worry about when I'm bored or unable to sleep...

1.
That all life that we are aware of exists in a thin envelope around a molten marble that has only partially cooled, that is zipping around a naturally occurring fusion reactor with near perfect vacuum in between. This envelope of life makes up:

0.39% of the total volume of the earth

0.00000000000000000006989% (5.9890 e -20%) of the volume of the solar system

0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000063863% (6.3863 e -40%) of the minimum volume estimate of the milky way

0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000011833% (1.1833 e -60 %) of the volume of the known universe

To put this into perspective...if the known universe was reduced to the size of the earth, then the volume of the universe known to contain life would be smaller than a single proton.

2.
If we used the farthest distance between man-made objects (earth to voyager 1) to view the Andromeda galaxy (one of our closer galactic neighbors), we would only be able to gain a separation of perspective roughly equal to the distance b/w our eyes while viewing an object 48,000 miles away.

3.
We are beings that are involuntarily moving in one direction through time, yet we are only able to gather real data from events have already happened and guess about what is going to happen based on patterns drawing from what is in the past.

This is similar to putting someone into a top fuel rail car, facing backwards, with a brick tied to the gas pedal. The driver is then expected to only look at things that have already passed him/her, and guess what is coming up (and navigate through the landscape) based on what he can see behind him.

4.
At some point, we will run out of key resources on this closed system that is earth. Before that, we will reach a point where we still have enough resources to continue a finite amount of growth, but not enough to muster a recovery/escape plan to continue our way of life. At this point we will be trapped for at least several million years, and up to hundreds of millions of years on this planet while the waste products we produce are slowly reincorporated into recoverable forms. At this point our form of intelligent life will almost certainly never expand beyond the reaches of this planet.

5.
Given that we are all made up of the energy/matter that has existed since the birth of the universe (as we believe it to exist), we are all small portions of the universe. Therefore, we are a self-aware form of the universe. We are the only example that we know of the universe observing itself and trying to figure itself out. All of the processes in our bodies and brains are the result of the original energy/matter/interactions of the universe, and therefore all thoughts by us are the thoughts of the universe. When we ingest substances and trip balls, we are the universe getting high off of itself and viewing hallucinations that aren't hallucinations at all, but the result of the universe's interactions with itself.

...and finally, when you get down and dirty with someone, masturbate, watch porn, etc....you are the universe fucking itself, fucking itself, or (more than likely) fucking itself while watching videos of itself fucking itself :awecid::feelsgoodman:

Feel free to share your idle thoughts...:thumbup:

Damn....

...you gotta lay off the psychadelics man. Maybe the bud for a day or two wouldn't hurt either.lol.

I think about that resources shit a lot. I don't get to into the universe type of stuff. Mine is more about the ills of society. Especially how it seems like people eat so much shit. No one stands for anything. It is really irritating to me. I can't believe the things people sacrifice with family just to have a job. Plus the bosses of those jobs, why do they feel the need to have a superior complex or whatever....eh fuck em.

BTW. drawde. Idk if you are an injun, but if you are then we got something in common. Respect brother!

The whole post was pretty fun, but referring to humankind as the universe itself becoming self-aware and self-analytical is fucking rad.

My apologies. If that's the case, I would love to have my mind blown by some not-so-simple ideas that you're implying you've had.  :mindblown:

This should be an exchange of ideas , I was merely sifting through some of my thoughts to find some of the ideas that could be explained very thoroughly in my own way of understanding them, but wouldn't blow up my post beyond the "tl;dr" limit for most people.

Don't be shy guys, if my ideas are boring or too simple then spice this thread up. I look forward to reading into your ideas! :pipesmoke:

Things that slip in and slip out of my head would be...

What if my dad only liked anal?

What would happen if gravity stood up and said NO MORE!  where would the earth fall too and would it fall down for us or for china?

What is earth's weight capacity?

What if the universe is round?

I am not perfect nor do I strive to be, I am alive in this world of face first falls and public breakdowns
I'm a retarded, disfigured clown
Dying to be heard through the simple art of letting this heavy wall finally fall
I'm an equal being of no race, or color, a hallucination if you will
Sneaking into the lives of strangers, and letting them fall apart to a new rhythm just to feel better

Thanks for sharing.. and I really enjoyed the breakdown to humor at the end.. With all this info youve laid out, it seems the sole purpose of the universe is to fuck itself.. makes you wonder how many other universes there might be and what they are up to.. LOL

The earth would fall outward from the sun along with all of the other planets in a direction dependant on its position in orbit around the sun, along the plane of the milky way. Think of the planet as a ball on a string that you are swinging around over your head, and all of a sudden you let go of the string. That's what would happen to the earth and all objects orbiting the sun.

At the same time, all of the stars in the milky way would begin to fly outward into the rest of the universe just like the planets from the sun. This would happen to all celestial objects in all galaxies in the universe.

All objects that aren't bound via intermolecular interactions or  chemical would be repelled by one another due to the electrons in all of the atoms that make up the objects. Once gravity lets go, the air molecules would immediately explode from the earths surface at a fairly high rate of speed. All sand, soil, water, pebbles, boulders, and loose pieces of anything would also be blown away from the earths surface and each other, and would join the shock wave of satellite debris and atmosphere that would be quickly forming an expanding shell around the planet. Lose objects inside of anchored buildings/structures would evenly disperse into the interior space, assuming they weren't blown out of any doors/windows during the mass exodus of the atmosphere. While the mantle and crust would be left mostly solid and connected in the initial few seconds, the hot iron in the inner and outer core would soon boil and blow the outer layers apart. These small chunks of solid rocky crust and molten mantle would disperse uniformly in the same manner as the rest of the planet.

This would happen with all of the planets, the most spectacular being the gas giants...which would form massive spherical shockwaves that would spread out into nebulae, eventually diffusing into nearly nothing.

The sun and all stars in the universe would instantly explode from the inside outward, releasing most of the thermal and potential energy that was stored up in each star in giant spherical shock waves that would slowly spread out like the gas giant planets. This shock wave of high energy particles would likely catch up with the remnants of the planets and tear them to pieces, ultimately incorporating their matter into it's shock wave.

I'm not sure whether the singularities of black holes would re-expand. If they did, it would be the most spectacular and destructive events to take place in the universe. If the singularity doesn't re-expand, then the loss of the event horizon would allow any photons being emitted by the singularity or orbiting inside of the former event horizon to release all at once, along with any matter orbiting the singularity both inside and outside of the event horizon. Either way, the supermassive black holes in the centers of galaxies would truly be a site to behold.

Any chunks of solid stuff bound together by intermolecular interactions (like the leftovers of earth's crust and mantle) would eventually tear each other apart via high speed collisions as they all race to fill any space in the universe that has slightly less stuff in it than the rest of the universe. Electromagnetic interactions would take over as the dominant force that shapes the large-scale structure of the universe.

We would all be doomed though

It really depends on what you consider functional failure of the earth. The earth can support approximately 1.5 to 3 times the mass of the sun before collapsing under its own weight into a black hole.

Way before this though, the average human would only be able to endure a matter addition equal to 4 times the current mass of the earth (final earth mass = 5x current mass). Beyond this, average adults lose consciousness while standing/sitting. A trained person in a special suit can withstand a matter addition equal to 8 times the current mass of earth (final earth mass = 9x current mass) before losing consciousness. At this point though, the air pressure would be high enough to induce oxygen toxicity, so our own atmosphere would kill us.

What if the universe is round?

I believe the current consensus is that spacetime is curved...meaning that if you start from earth and travel in a straight line long enough, you will end up back at earth coming from the opposite direction. This implies a sort of roundness to the universe. This is assuming that the universe is held constant in its current form, which it is not. The universe is expanding, and the expansion appears to speed up and accelerate faster the further out you look. There is a point way out there where the distance b/w you and that point is growing faster than the speed of light (even though the points are not moving through said space faster than the speed of light). At this point, any light or information emitted from that far point will never reach you. This is called the cosmological event horizon. Therefore, you (being restricted to the speed of light) would never be able to travel fast enough for long enough to reach the "edge" of the universe to get back to your starting point.

Now if the universe is infinite, then the law of total probability implies that if you picked and arbitrary direction, and traveled in that same direction for an incredibly long time and distance, you would happen upon an exact replica of earth in an exact replica of the known universe. To you, it would appear that you have finally come full circle and that the universe is indeed round. By this point the universe would have likely ceased to exist via heat death.

So from what we can tell, the universe is kinda round but in a practical sense kinda not.

Yep...:pipesmoke:
