I just harvested my first crop thanks to the information from this site. In my field of expertise if you pull a vacume on a sealed system it will boil off any moisture. Then purge with dry nitrogen, and pull a vacume again. What if you where to build a pressure vessel and pull a vacume on the buds that were inside, do you think that you could increase your drying time. I wonder this, because the RH is rising in my area. What da ya think?

You could try it with a small amount and see what happens. You usually want a slow dry though. Drying too fast will get you a shitty end product.
Don't forget to cure.

yeah drying and curing weed isn't similar to lab work. I would just let it dry slowly in the open air. If it's humid enough you can stick a fan in the room just for circulation; Don't let it blow directly on the bud. Stick it in a sealed mason jar before it's crispy.

I've been digging the paper bag method lately... the aromatics are just stellar. Seems like the longer it takes, the better the show in the pipe. Then long jar curing... If I open one of the jars of paper bag dried blueberry it hits me in the face

I made this thread in my journal on how I dry bud. Its a pretty fool proof method.
A vacuum chamber is not needed for bud. I've heard of vacuum sealing to help speed the final drying phase, as it helps distribute moisture, but not essential. You'll constantly need a vacuum on it for a long while to dry. If you kept the bud super cold while in the vacuum chamber it would be called "freeze drying," a popular method of preserving food. If done properly it *might* retain more terpenes/ flavor, however it would probably also retain more of its chlorophyll as well--your trying to slow dry to get rid of it normally.
My buddy and I are trying to figure out the best way to flash dry bubble hash without bringing the temperature up. Just the other night tried to freeze dry it. First we made some bubble dried it by wrapping it in screen, then using a towel around that and using the bag vacuum sealer to squeeze and absorb most moisture. Then we used dry ice in isopropyl alcohol to get it super cold (no direct contact). Then he threw it in his close loop butane extractor's collection containerer (~$10,000 system, home built stainless steel) to vacuum off the remaining moisture. It didn't change much overnight while connected to an HVAC pump. Its still in its infancy, but the equipment required to properly freeze dry stuff is not as common as you'd hope.
Some things to consider under vacuum is that damages the tricomes and cell walls, which is why we were trying to freeze it first.
With that said, were reaching for a bar that I created when I flash dried some bubble by wrapping it in the fine mesh bubble bag and stuck it in my sun roof for a 4 hour drive on a 95 degree day. It came out super blonde and was the same color throughout. I still have a small chunk two months later and still the same color as when it was dried. I started with a golf ball sized chunk and just broke it up with my fingers to 3-4 smaller chunks mid-way.
