I know it's an old post, but I thought I could contribute:
The oil slicks are great, but eventually the silicon "cells" start to break up after being in contact with the evaporating butane (I think the rapid contraction and expansion from being cold and then warm stresses the pad)...then you get the little grains of silicon in your finished product. A shop near me just started selling pure silicon trays, and I've been using those with great success. Brand is "NoGoo", and I'm loving the simplicity of my extractions now!

Good info man! 
I figured it was weird that my oil slicks were breaking down so fast, and didn't want anyone to waste the money on one, now it looks like I need another new toy to make my BHO.

I lose so much finished product that way though...maybe I'll spend the twenty five bones and see how the sheet works.
