Asking because I'm going to get back into after 10+ years. I know technology advances so fucking fast with any sport (all you mountain bikers out there know what i mean), so what are good brands for decks? wheels? trucks? who're the pros these days?
help me out guys!

Don't skate on a regular deckas often anymore, got more into longboarding since it's fucking easy and something friends that have never skated before can get into even though they're getting a bit older.
Decks, I used to only skate baker decks, but IMO, Almost decks are some of the best out there. When I was still really into skating they had some pretty sick boards with a carbon fiber or some shit in between the plies, and made it super light and insanely durable.
Trucks, Tensor, or independent. Tensor is fucking king though...
Wheels, meh, never really gave a shit, I just like the bigger/softer ones over those crazy solid tiny fuckers that catch every pebble on the street.
Bearings, reds are my favorite. You have bone swiss, but IMO those things are so fucking high quality it makes it hard to keep stable on the board. with swiss I'm much more prone to land on the board and instead of getting that awkward recovery, getting slingshot to the ground as the board flies away.

I haven't skated in about a year. Fucked my ankle up pretty bad around this time last year and it's never been the same, couldn't bring myself to get back on the board. Now snowboarding, that's another story, if it wasn't for this drought I'd be out there shredding.
The young cats like Nyjah Houston are dominating the sport as far as I know.
I know what you mean with the mountain bikes. Honestly I really want to get into riding more but bikes are a huge investment, I don't feel comfortable paying that much for something I don't even know how to work on myself.

I almost bought a complete a few months ago, I think I still might. I really don't want to fall down though, that shit really hurts now. My complete would be: Black Label deck Thunder trucks Spitfire wheels Bearings, IDGAF as long as they're ABEC 5. I like a lot of freestyle and flatland tricks so I don't appreciate having really good bearings. Shorty's hardware This is what I used to skate, I might change my trucks though.

I've been skating for a while, I usually prefer plan b decks or baker decks, thunder trucks and ricta wheels, a lot that goes into it is your preference in deck width and wheel size too though, I ride 8" plan b's with usually 53mm ricta's I don't like tiny or large wheels and 8" is pretty solid for an average build guy, bearings aren't usually a big deal unless you get some kind of really shitty cheap ones, bones red/swiss are nice though, mycophile is definitely right about nyjah Houston, mike mo capaldi Bryan Herman, luan oliveira, Brandon westgate, torey pudwill and chaz Ortiz are all super good and baker 3 is still one of the best videos to watch for sure

Going to 2nd that Reds are the best bearings. I use them in my roller blades. I rollerblade everyday that I can. None of that aggressive shit gay shit, I like to city skate. It's like eden. Mobile, fast, it's like riding a motorcycle.

So aggressive rollerblading is gay and just rollerskating around is comparable to being a biker? Come on man...
I wanna see you throw yourself down a 20 stair handrail and then try to say it's gay.

im only able to skate down 2 or 3 step stairs right now. not comfortable doing more than that. if you are talking about grinding railings lol, i mean like skate down the actual stairs.
aggressive inline and urban skating are to different monsters. going down huge hills in the moonlight on the blades gives me the same adrenaline rush riding my motorcycle does. no brakes, yo. fuckin intense.
i also want to point out I can do 10+ miles on the blades. aggressive skates are almost limited to parks and certain set ups with tricks. you can not city skate with them (i mean skating with and next to cars in traffic).

I used to live on my skateboard as a teen.
Now I'm fat and have a bum knee so that put an end to that.
I'll enjoy living vicariously through you though.

I'm into speed and skating on car territory. I'm sorry I don't like grinding rails. The bottom of the boot is very different for said activities.

Well guys, got me a complete board shop deck w/ruckus trucks, fkd bearings and generic board shop wheels...something small like 51 with hard duro. Totally different animal than my never summer 42" longboard with big ole squishy wheels. It's not the greatest but it'll do!
