Starting seeds under 12/12?

So I've done some reading and a few places recommend starting a ''thai'" strain under 12/12 (for the seedling stage I am assuming).
Anyone know the reasoning for this?
Quote:
The best results indoors are achieved allowing the plant to develop fully in size (vertically or horizontally), while outdoors the ideal environment is equatorial, tropical or mild Mediterranean. We suggest to start the seeds directly at 12/12 indoors.
This is the first i have heard of germing seeds on 12/12.

Yeah some Thai strains can take up to 16 weeks to mature and then the buds start to mature at different times. These are ready then a few days later some over here are ready and so on. Thai is a very killer strain one of my personal favs but I grow it for myself cause it's just to big a pain in the ass to grow for quantity.

But why would they need to be under 12/12 as seedlings?

Because the flowering period is so long by the time they are done you have normal size plants.
I'll have to dig up a pic of a Thai plant I was growing that I grew like a normal plant. I flowered it at 4 feet tall. Well I didn't know about the long flowering time and the buds maturing at different times. By the time it was fully done there was over 17 feet of it.

I'll get it in the next day or two. Like I said it's a old pic so I gotta find it (I know where it's at) and scan it in to my computer. Put it this way. When I grew this plant they didn't even have home computers yet. I did have a state of the art VCR though

You know I don't but the thing still works. I have one of the first video cameras also. You pretty much need a backpack for it. The camera itself looks like what news crews carry now. Was huge.

Oh man you should have seen the huge deal floppy disks were when they came out. Everybody was amazed at the 1 yes 1 mb of information they held. There was no way in hell you could do pictures or anything like that.
and the Atari 2600 was rocking the video game scene.

Should get Toe jam and earl for Genesis and play with your son. Best 2 player genesis game for a younger kid to adult imo.

Toe jam and earl is the best. The first xbox had one that was hard to play but the graphics were pretty bad ass. Very stoney game. Get the game Dune for Genesis--one of the original RTS. You also need golden ax and streets of rage. Desert/jungle/urban strike, ecco, General chaos, outlander, mortal combat, micro machines and a few more.
You can get emulators and all the sega/nintendo games out there. It helps to have a controller, but its hours of entertainment.

I have Gen. Chaos, MK, Golden Axe, and all you named except for Micro machines and urban strike. I loved those helicopter games. I bought a console from the dollar store of all places for 30 bucks around Christmas for my son and it had 80 games already on it. Had my favorite genesis game of all time on it....COMIX ZONE!!!! I still have the cd that it came with back in the day when I got the cartridge for Christmas when I was a kid.lol. Sorry to OP for getting way off topic btw.lol.

HAha sorry to go off subject. Those helicopter gensis games were awesome though.
I understood starting 12/12 to be a way of keeping sativas shorter since some of them grow into monsters. I'm newer to the hobby and thought starting in 12/12 was a common known thing since a ton of the sativa seed descriptions suggest starting into a 12/12 cycle, but I guess I haven't actually read much about it. I've seen at least 1 strain need 15 weeks flower time, Which is crazy.
I plan to start off some of the longer flowering sativas in 12/12. Well maybe give em a few days veg. Some of the sativa 12/12 starters I have queued up are SAGE, Y Griega(85 day sativa), Jack's Cleaner 2, Ghost train haze, and Hawaiian snow. If anyone cares what other people are planning to grow.

I've never heard of starting under 12/12. I would veg them until they start looking like actual plants, not just a few leaves coming in on a stick.

Thats what I was planning on doing.
Veg them in my GH for 2-4 weeks and then flower them outdoors.

All I was saying is that multiple seed companies suggest starting certain larger sativas under 12/12 or else they will be monsters.
Here are a couple quotes "In hydroponic systems and aeroponicos we recomended put directly to 12/12, either from cuttings or seeds" "Put her directly under a 12/12 schedule or a very limited pregrow phase with continuous light (24/7) to limit height"
I see it a lot. Some say to put directly into 12/12 if you're doing hydro or else they'll get too big.

Yes you can start a plant under 12/12, but you'll get much less yield.
Depending upon the strain. For pure sativas, it's not horrible, for for an indica, you'll get a paltry harvest. For a hybrid, you'll get much less. You'll also get much less than if you grow the sativa regular style.
but DJ Short does point out that Sativas cycles should more closely follow the actual cycles that equatorial sativas experience with their days all being shorter, so this idea may not be as far off from nature as many would assume, just because the northern climates day times follow this similar time format.
