I was just wondering if the seeds from wild licorice are edible or toxic. I have tried one and it tasted similar to a pea(though a little hard). I figured that if I boiled them they would taste quite good though. I just wanted to know if I will kill myself doing it though.
Quote: Caution: Large amounts of wild licorice can be toxic. Consumed in large amounts over time it can act like a steroid hormone, raising blood pressure, increasing sodium retention and depleting potassium levels, elevate blood pressure, lower energy levels, and even cause death. Pregnant or nursing women, people with heart disease, high blood pressure, glaucoma or kidney or liver disease, and people taking hormones or digitalis should not use this herb.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the seeds contain more of this steroid hormone than the rest of the plant? I know that toxins are often in higher concentration in the seeds.
