i'm also interested in knowing how T5's or CFL's compare to a MH.

A MH generates a lot of heat so it's not a good idea for seedlings, if you don't veg long a MH definatley isn't needed.

how does a t5 compare to a mh watt for watt though? a bank of t5's isn't exactly cheap either you can get a 1kw mh setup for 200$ prehaps less (this is a low end setup) and a t5 4bulb setup is easily the same cost.

HID lighting will win every time compared to other forms of lighting.  The reason T5 banks are so expensive is the bank itself.  The bulbs aren't dirt cheap either.  I would personally use the T5's for veg and the HID's for flowering.  It's a lot easier to keep a veg cab cool using fluoros then HID lighting.

what kinda area would a Sunblaster T5 2foot 4 Bulb Array
be good for? 96 watts total.

I also have some 48" uv lights but that's no good till flowering?

This thread was moved from Soil Cultivation.

Reason:
More appropriate for the general cultivation forum, as the topic has absolutely nothing to do with soil.

a 2x2 area will give you 26 watts per sq ft.  Why would you only want 96 watts though?  There are T5 banks out there that output up to 250 watts in a 4 bulb bank.  The bank i used was 192 watts, each bulb put out around 48 watts.

I'd speak about this more in lumens since that means more then wattage.  I just can't remember the lumen output off the top of my head.
