i was thinking about taking some online courses focusing on some IT shit, but its just too costly right now, but the whole certificate thing seems more ideal and affordable. thing is, id hate to waste that time and money in getting certificates, but not being able to do anything with it.
can you actually move forward with certificates alone? what certs would be good to look into?

I'm thinking a cert in Information Systems Security and Cisco Networking Fundamentals.

Awhile ago I was talking to a friend of my dads and she said if I am not miataken that you can get hired with certs.

thats what im thinking too. i was approved for a little over 15k in financial aid and both those certs would be in my range.
the ISS cert is a 10 month 24 credit course and costs 7,480
the CISCO cert is a 5 month 12 credit course and costs 3,740
im really leaning towards giving the okay and signing up.

i tried the online classes for A+ certification. i couldnt do it. i hate online classes. i need hands on to actually learn the stuff. there is so much shit you need to remember, cables, types of RAM, etc.
i'm going back to school next month for computer information systems. basic stuff.
those certifications would not just get you a job, but get you higher pay because you have that certificate. i'm going to do a year 2 school and then take the A+ certification. better to start with the basics and work up to networking+ security+ or cisco
if i were you, i would find a school so you can get real hands on. the virtualware program i used sucked. "if you dont have a computer in front you, imagine a NTX motherboard" idk what it looks like in real life! fuuuck. thats why i hate online classes.

online classes are my only option right now and ideal cause i pretty much sit at a desk all day doing jack shit. like right now...
i figured the certs would be considered the basics. i did look at some actual classes, but most stay around the 22,000 range which i will not be able to cover. the certs are cheaper and have a shorter duration as far as the length of the class. im also in the same small room as the IBM guys for att which means i will have plenty of support and help.
sounds like you have a solid plan though. any prior experience?

I have a friend who only has certs and he has a pretty legit job, makes like 18$/hr as IT for a company
