is it bad to smoke around a kitty? i don't mean shotgunning it to her or even blowing it in her face, but if i smoke around her, is that harmful at all? 5 weeks old.

just don't blow it in her ears or anything like that. that is very bad i've read.
i wouldn't worry too much about it, just don't hotbox with her in the room. go to another room to smoke or something or blow it out the window.
when i had my cat, it would run away when i smoked?

Eh i dunno...My friend has a cat that is quite hefty, and it will get high just sitting on the couch as we smoke in the living room, which isn't huge since it is an apartment. But the cat does get high....
Maybe once your cat is fully matured i say there are no probs besides a high cat. But at 5 weeks old i can't see the cat weighing more than a pound or two, and that little kitty has lots of development to still go through.
Pretty much just make sure there is some fresh air circulating through the room you are smoking in if the cat is around, keep the smoke from becoming stagnate and concentrated in the room....
After a few years introduce em' to the herb and see if he likes, maybe you will have a new smoking buddy...
