Hi everyone,
So i just got some hash oil that my friend swore up and down was Co2 but as for me i was unconvinced. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before that can verify that it is Co2 or even oil at all? Has a faint aroma like medicine and tastes like a halls losange/floral aftertaste. Its hard like candy and melts down the same as any other oil I've seen. Potency doesn't seem to be as strong as BHO but i have no other experience with Co2.

Looks like oil to me. Never heard of using co2 though.

that looks like bho wax too me, too .... maybe they purged it with Co2 somehow

Probably acetone extracted and freeze precipitated. Called shatter oil.

SFE (supercritical fluid extraction) is the process of using a pressurized solvent to do an extraction. In this case it would be pressurized carbon dioxide. The best oil I've ever come across has been made with CO2.
As for shatter, it was my understanding that it is the consistency at which the oil "shatters" easily, and has less to do with the solvent used. Acetone, IME, takes up to many pigments and lipids and doesn't make quality oil like others do.

...So... they supposedly take ganja, add Co2 and pressurize it to liquid, and then poor it out into an addition chamber under pressure to let the pressure release and boil?
They say it seems like oil though.

(SFE) is taking a pressurized solvent (co2, butane, etc.) and "blasting it" through the plant matter which picks up the essential oil and leaves the rest behind. It is sometimes done directly onto a heated surface or transferred afterward.
I have only limited personal experience and have never worked with co2.

Oh yea, they can do the same thing as butane huh. I suppose in that case completely as doable, in that case it should be basically the same unless one tends to have more impurities.

Co2 is natural and much cleaner. With butane you run the risk of leaving heavy metals, if done incorrectly.

Butane leaches metals from something? Butane is just C4H10 .

There are different grades of purity, not everything you buy in a can is pure butane. Again, I'm no expert.

If there are impurities I highly doubt they are metallic

Most people use the "zero impurity" cans.... (hopefully)

Well OP, from what i know, there are about 12 labs in California that produce oil through means of super critical C02 extraction and more in col. and wash. Most SCC02 setups cost upwards of $100,000 and are generally used to extract caffeine from coffee grounds. It would be really hard for your average joe to build a decently producing SCC02 extractor on their own, though some people have built small ones(good luck containing 4000+ psi on medium sized unit!). So if it is C02 oil, your friend probably got it from a reputable collective. I have to say though, SCC02 oil is very clean from the get go, and that oil doesn't look right to me with its uneven cloudiness...but i could be very wrong (hard to tell from a picture).
(notice how sappy and unstable it is)
SCC02 is some of the cleanest oil if left unpurged strait out of the extractor, which means 90% of the time its sold in a sappy form. The general safety guidelines at most laboratories now-a-days for butane extracts are >50PPM, so a fully purged and winterized butane extract will have less plant lipids in it than a C02 extract of any type.
This is why you don't really see SCC02 around that often, to have columns big enough to hold more than an ounce at a time, it costs a massive amount of money for the equipment, and its just not better than other forms of extraction. Check out some of these test results, no where near some of the 70-80% shatters made with butane.
C02 oil #1
C02 oil #2
C02 oil #3
Give it a taste OP, if there's any chemically notes, its not C02. If it tastes planty, has a shit load of terps, and goes down super smooth, then its very possible. report back man
