beginner seeking advice

Have been doing a ton of reading, picked up Jorge's book and been looking at people's grow logs. Was all set on doing FFOF until I started pricing it out and was shocked that every place in town is $35 per 1.5cu foot bag.
Stumbled across these Hempy buckets and they really seem like a simple way to grow. Cost effective and low maintenance. Only have a small space to play with and not looking to grow pounds, just want to get it right and learn something in the process.
So what do you guys think? Are hempys a good way to go for a beginner? Any gotchas I should know about?
Current plan is 2x3x6.5 tent, carbon filter and 440cfm inline, 3 gallon buckets with the original hempy perlite/verm mix, GH Lucas formula, 2-3 strawberry cough in a scrog with a 400W Cooltube HPS.
Would really appreciate someone's advice!

As far as the hempy buckets they look good and I've seen good results but I have a policy that if I haven't done it I let ya know I don't know much abut them cause I haven't done them myself.

Thanks dude. Unfortunately that Kellogg stuff is not available in my area :/ Another idea I had was to use pro-mix and use some organic nutes I've used before with tomato plants with great success. The nutes are from a company called Age Old.

Yeah you could also go with coco there are some great results posted with it. That is another thing I can't give advise with though cause personally I hate using coco for growing with a passion.
Just a me thing

I personally had good results with it initially, but had a bad bug problem from a bag left on the floor of a grow shop too long. I got root aphids something fierce. Ill Never use that shit again. also, if you must use it, don't use bricks you must rehydrate yourself. You must adjust the ph and use buffers for it. It is wildly unpredictable.

Yeah I did see the coco hempy's as well. I was a little cautious about going that direction because I saw some people were having problems with moisture and didn't want to over-complicate things on my first grow.
There's also supersoil with promix, which I can get all the ingredients for but it seems really aggressive with the potential to nute burn your plants.

Yeah, you know the hempy thing with 3:1 perlite/verm is looking like a really easy way to start. Lucas forumla with RO water, don't over/under water and you're good to go.

Have you tried it? I've been curious about it for a while but it just seems sketchy and no one uses it around here

Yeah I know it seems sketchy, but there's several dozen grow logs out there, all really seemingly successful. I can give it a go and post the results. Just needs to decide on nutes.
