Plants wilting?
    #667278 - 04/23/13 05:28 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

So about two two days ago I noticed my plants were wilting and falling over. I tied them with a piece of string and stick to keep them up. Why do you guys think they started to wilt and fall over?

The older one on the bottom isn't wilting as bad.

Did you harden them off?  How'd you prep that soil bed?  How long have they been out there?

Sorry I forgot to mention these are from seed so they have been outside since they sprouted. I dug a 2 foot by 2 foot hole and mixed in some Kelloggs patio mix.(composted forest products, canadian peat moss, composted chicken manure, rice hulls, horticultural sand, perlite, bat guano, kelp meal & worm castings. I also added about 2-3 handfuls of mulch in with the soil. and I also added more perlite) I transplanted them from small pots too soil about a week and a half ago.

How dry is the soil?  What have the weather conditions been like?

the top is kinda dry but when I stick my finger in it, its pretty moist as I just watered them yesterday.

Weather is pretty fair. Been in the low  70s to the low 80s for the last two weeks. Last week it was pretty windy for a few days.

YOu may want to try cutting the bottom off of gallon jugs and putting them over em.  I'm not really sure what's going on man.

They look so dry................. :sad:looks as if you may need to water them daily?
Also in the last pic half that seedlings tap root is exposed, this may have attributed to them falling over.

The yellowing at the base of the seedling of the first pic could mean a lack of nutrient
A little organic liquid fertiliser, diluted as their still seedlings would do them great.

Also that soil 'looks' really 'acidic'.
Maybe test the PH of the soil?
A soil conditioner, like seasol or equivalent would really help.

I gave them some B12 so hopefully that helps.

Cover them as well.  Milk jugs work great as a mini green house.

Well I decided to put up a sheet to cover them from the afternoon sunlight.

I have a third plant in a different location and that gets less sunlight (around 5 hours) and that one is completely normal.

Hopefully they will bounce back in a week or two.
