The more I find out it says stuff like "if your wife isn't a virgin she is to be put to death" and stuff, the more I wonder how much of the rest of the bible people put their own spin on and its just accepted.
I did some googling but only found really biased sites. Anyone have some truths about Hell? I seem to remember being told it wasn't even firey, but that's how everyone thinks of it.
Please don't make this personal. I don't care what anyone believes, its your business, I'm just curious about it.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

I believe a Jesus sermon mentioned hell being like a giant flaming garbage dump... I don't think it's anywhere in the old testament.

Pope and Vatican both came out around 2000 and said the visions of hell as some sort of fire-filled painful place were bullshit concocted to manipulate people.
Since all biblical faiths are a spin-off of Catholicism it created a huge problem for the others who still use it to control people. People want to deny both aspects: that their bible-based faith is both a rip off of Catholicism and that the place don't exist. It is too effective of a control mechanism to give up on.

I find it interesting how blindly people follow what they've been told. Seems like their biggest argument is "you'll burn in Hell", so it got me wondering just how much these people didn't know.

It's your opinion, and you're allowed to have that. Most of it is allegory anyways.

There is just as much proof of god as there is proof about no god.
I believe because I believe... such is belief. If we had facts it would just be knowledge.

Yeah go give that argument to the physicists who discovered the Higgs Boson and uncover the mystery of how we are here by smashing together sub-atomic particles at almost the speed of light. You can believe in God but don't go bashing knowledge or saying there is just as much proof for God as there is he doesn't exist. Sure, you can add him in there if you want, but there is no need for him. We understand how the universe was created, and it works without God.

Did I say there is just as much proof?
I'm just saying there isn't any proof that he doesn't exist. A scientist doesn't claim that something he has no proof to is true.
By the way, we don't understand the first few fractions of a second after the big bang. We don't know what caused it, and any theory anyone makes at this current moment in time is merely an acceptable hypothesis that modern science can't explain because of the fact we don't actually understand HOW the fundamental forces changed to make the creation event to happen.
You can feel free to try to talk about fundamental particles, and how those scientists obviously have to think my belief in a divine is stupid. But they don't. Most scientists could give a rats ass less about what people believe, because most people understand belief happens in the absence of facts.
Self righteous atheists who feel like they are geniuses for not believing get on my nerves.

That's how I think more atheists AND theists should feel.
Also Fractal to say I'm bashing knowledge is kind of ridiculous, Neil Tyson and Bill Nye are my idols and I've dedicated my life to spreading knowledge.
Then again rational argumentation is out of the question on the growery, as every thread where religion is brought up I've seen has proven.

Like I said, I never meant to offend anyone. I'm cool with people believing whatever. I'm really only talking about the extremists who are so passionate they need to spread the word by threatening non believers. I already know those people are ignorant in life, this thread was an attempt to figure out if they are also ignorant about what they're supposed to be experts at :P
