Cannabis Cup is a scam. DNA is ridiculously priced and the genetics and breeding are shoddy at best.
Edit: Just realized this is a "sponsor's" forum. If I'm not allowed to speak negatively about sponsors let me know please and I'll remove this post.

Angus doesn't like any major breeder, just look at his other posts!
I'd be more receptive to his feedback if 1) I hadn't had great success with more than one of the breeders he thinks are "scum", and 2) he would include some rationale or qualification as to why none of them are acceptable (i.e. HTCC is a scam b/c the breeders that win are typically major contributors and cash-cows for High Times (which is true, and I agree with him on that point)).

The Patients' Choice San Francisco Medical Cannabis Competition and the Caregiver's Cup in Colorado are pretty cool; and I'm sure there are some cool festies/competitions in Canada over the year.
I had a friend go to the ICMag Cup and he had an INCREDIBLE time, and sampled some crazy ganja submitted by members at ICMag.

They sell overpriced seeds that under-perform. There are breeders who sell seeds for $30 a pack or less and document the entire breeding process from parental selection to pre-release test grows. How come DNA can't do that? I certainly don't rail against all commercial breeders, just most of them  In fact, I posted in this thread a list of breeders from the top of my head that a newbie grower could trust. I would have killed to have someone sort through the crap and tell me straight up who was good people and who is shady/scammers/just in it for the money.

Honeslty from my take on it... YOU ARE BOTH RIGHT IN YOUR OWN WAY... Many people have had great sucess with breeders beans and some end up in the trash!!!
If you think about it, its a black market! There will be scammers in the bunch without question. So now you ask "how is that" WELL say you spend 200 on 10 beans and all 10 are bad do you think your gonna get a refund? Do you think your gonna contact the BBB and fight for a responce?? I dont think so. Breeders can sell you any garbage they want and get away with it. there is shit you can do about it... on the other hand you can get good seeds so it goes back and forth.
My take is..if you can get seeds from soneone you know go that route... if not your only way to get them is from seedbanks. its a roll of the dice.......

I have a friend who used to do PR in the Denver/Boulder area for musical artists, and she has contact with all of the venues (big and small) in the area.
I'm gonna start a thread in the Lounge and see how many might be able to participate.
It would be an awesome Growery gathering AND if we can get permission to brand the cup as a Growery event, it would really increase awareness of these forums!
