-------------------- There's a conflict in every human heart
between the rational and the irrational,
between good and evil.
The good does not always triumph.
Sometimes the dark side overcomes
what Lincoln called the better
angels of our nature.

He had a mental breakdown and LSD added to that. According to Gilmour he would have had a breakdown with or without LSD. "In my opinion, his nervous breakdown would have happened anyway. It was a deep-rooted thing. But I'll say the psychedelic experience might well have acted as a catalyst. Still, I just don't think he could deal with the vision of success and all the things that went with it."
Also he left the band to get mental help if I am correct he didn't get fired from it.
