Help with some leaf/bud issues on an indoor 400w hps grow
    #653242 - 12/30/12 06:09 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Take a look at the pictures and please lend me your expert advice/diagnosis.

400w hps.  3-4 weeks into flower.  Some leaves curling/yellow-browning/look burnt on the tips.

ALSO more pressing, some hairs look to be browning/curling themselves.  This has happened on 2 previous grows and eventually the buds themselves will turn brown and look burnt and the whole plant will be a waste.

Can anyone tell me what is happening here?

I use generic veg nutes and havent put any nutes in during flower for fear of burn.

Any help?

How close is your light to the top of the plants????
What kind of temps is that room getting up to???

Take a minute and answer these questions, and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Soil Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones?
2. How old are your plants?
3. How tall are your plants?
4. What size containers are they planted in?
5. What is your soil mix?
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use?
7. What is the pH of your water?
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio?
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything?
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights")
11. How close are your lights to the plants?
12. What size is your grow space in square feet?
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space?
14. What is the pH of the soil?
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
16. How much experience do you have growing?

6.  Water every other day.  Tap water.
7.  6.3 pH
8.  None during veg.  FoxFarm Big Bloom during flower.
9.  No
10.  400w hps
11.  Approx 8-10 inches above (with fan blowing directly under light to reduce temps
12.  5ft by 3 ft wide shower
13.  Temp approx 80 degrees.  Unsure of humidity.

My guess is the miracle grow soil, and you're probably over watering.  Miracle grow has time released fertilizers in it, and is just plain horrible for growing.  So your plants are showing classic signs of nutrient burn.

When you water, how much are you watering?  Because I can't imagine the plants are using it all up in 2 days at this age.  When you water you should at least be giving them 2-3 gallons, and then WAIT for them to become DRY.  The easiest way for myself to judge that is to feel the weight of the container directly after watering them, and then periodically feel how heavy they are.

Thanks to all who replied.

I am going to switch to the FoxFarm Ocean Forest for my next grow.  And try to keep the watering down to a minimum (when the pots feel on the light side).

Hopefully those 2 corrections remedy my growing woes.
