Yeah, gotta stay away from all that Miracle Gro SHIT.
Also the nute you're using in veg is WAY too hot for young plants.
Finally, if you're accurately measuring pH, you need to get your plant out of those basic ranges and back to a mildly acidic soil, otherwise you'll lock out all the nutes you're trying to feed her.

Agreed, that's pretty typical presentation of nute burn.

NO MIRACLE-GRO! :kingcrankey:

Miracle gro nutes and soils are petroleum-based, chelated, time-release, and all around bad news for cannabis plants.  My biggest issue is that the combination of slow release and synthetic chemical nutrients pretty much guarantees that you can't flush the plant enough when it's time to harvest, so you get to smoke whatever nasty shit is still coursing through your buds.

Have you tested the rain water for dissolved solids and pH?

Also, DWC is a hydroponic method...not soil.  Maybe I just don't understand your previous post, could you clarify?

Okay, I'm pretty confused by this.
Let's start with what you're trying to accomplish right now:

Are you building a soil, running a DWC setup, or going for a soil-less grow using some soil alternative like coco fiber?  These are all distinctly different setups.

Sorry! I'm back I'm trying to come up with a soil or soilless mix that drains well.

Alright, here's step one: make a decision as to whether you are doing a soil grow, or go soil-less

Quote:

cdmc1984 said:
So I did a bucket set up to make humidity for the root zone, and to drain the #5 pots so that they're not sitting in water.

Describe this setup better, I don't think anybody here knows what you're talking about when you say a bucket setup for humidity. Maybe a picture if possible?

Now I would like to take some of my old soil I made up and use it for filler when I go to make my new mix.  I got 2, 8quart bags of perlite, and about the same in peat moss and stirofoam beads. I have made up from old packing stirofoam.  I would like to try and use the stirofoam because I've seen it in other soil mixes.  I think it might work well as a filler. Also planning on putting some bone meal and maybe blood meal not sure yet.

What you're describing here is a soil mix, but it doesn't sound like a very good one.  First, you're starting with (and I don't mean this as an insult) a TERRIBLE soil mix from your first attempt, then you're proposing the addition of a lot of "filler" that does almost nothing in the way of correcting the issues you have.

Check it out, basic soil mix:
1 part good quality potting soil, 1 part extra chunky perlite, 1 part coconut coir (rinsed), 1 part worm castings.
All relatively cheap, all natural, and good enough to get the babies up and running.

Wanna give it a boost? Well I know you've got manure, so if it's been aged and rinsed, you can go ahead and add it in a ratio of 1/10 of the total soil mix.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT NUTRIENTS AT THIS POINT.  Get your base mix together, get some babies out of their shells, and then come check in again and we can all talk nutes.  Bueno?

Also, don't forget to describe that bucket setup so we can take care of that variable as well.

Yeah, vinegar is an acid, was your soil too basic at some point?
Also, peat moss is HIGHLY acidic, and it makes up the majority of your mix, I would bet that's your culprit.

Whoa.
Those are some fucked up plants.
Did you use hydrated lime?
I don't even know if those are salvageable...looks like they've been burned, overwatered, pH fucked, the humidity is probably too high due to the standing water in the grow space, and what is that "reservoir" thing you have set up with all the sludge in the bottom?

The plant on the left side of most of the pictures looks like it could survive, but you need to flush all the salts out of it (all of those "pH adjusters" are creating a massive salt build-up in your soil), and once flushed, you'll need to completely replace almost all the nutes you're currently using: they're killing your plants.

You never want animal protein in your compost, and you want it composted BEFORE you make it into a tea.
Frankly, this grow is a bit of a shit-show.  You need to finish it in whatever way you choose to finish it, and then tear it the fuck down and pretty much create a completely new setup.
Keep. it. simple. You are vastly overcomplicating a relatively simple process.
Ditch all that hose and the pumps and get down to just soil in buckets.
Go back a page in this thread and look at the soil recipe I put up for you.
Once you've managed a basic soil grow, and used legitimate nutrients, you can start experimenting with technique.

Yeah, I don't know how remote it is where you live, but actual gardening supply stores are a MUCH better bet than the big box stores in terms of quality of products offered.
Look around for a more specialized store, especially one that's locally owned.

I concur, AND you can buy non-petroleum based nutrients and additives that are not cannabis specific.  There's no reason for anybody to raise an eyebrow at you buying high quality gardening supplements and supplies.

Ok cdmc, this is your intervention.
Just for right now, stop looking at alternative and experimental techniques for your grow.
You don't understand the basics yet, so introducing all these things that you really don't understand is futile at best, and dangerous at worst.
If you have experience handling and diluting strong acids and bases, then sure, go ahead and use sulfuric acid and lye, but if you don't know if you should add water to an acid or vice versa, or why it's hazardous to your health to use tap water with battery acid, or that if you use the battery acid to bring pH down and then have to use NaOH to bring it back up that you're creating sodium sulfate, and if you don't know how that affects your soil, I recommend what I've recommended before.

I thought we had already done a good job of enumerating the reasons why your old soil mix was roughly the equivalent of human shit in a bucket...
Throw it out.  Refer back to this.

I'm with you, and I recycle my (100% organic) soil mix after every grow, but the content that was in your original soil is going to create major problems if you try to reuse it.
You could cut it 50/50 with compost/light potting soil and use it for house plants though.

That's part of it, but I told you before about the peat moss...it's bottoming out your pH, and unless you get a shit-ton more organic material in there, it will always be too low.
Also, peat moss is not sustainable, so it's a poor choice ecologically (which we hippies care about).

The problem with urine isn't that it's pathogenic, it's that it contains urea which degrades to ammonia in less than 24 hours, and has too much ammonia based nitrogen.  Ammonia based nitrogen is essentially free N and it's typically too hot for plants.

What? It's not a virus either, it's simply the chemical rxn that takes place as urea degrades to ammonia.
I would hope that someone with herpes would know better than to piss on his/her plant.
