 question on wether seeds are male or female controll

I was doing some reading a book on growing and it stated something along the lines if I control the type of light.. and hours of light and nutrients I would be able to influence the sex of the plant? is that true? by doing those things does it increase the odds a lot? or just a little bit? the reason im asking is because when looking at the price of seeds fem vs non fem seed there is a good difference.. And figured could save a little money this way.. but also if I have a strain I like I can breed it to make more seed to keep on the side if anything goes bad with a mother plant

Sex is in the genetics. By keeping it out of stressful conditions(lighting changes for example) you can keep it from going hermie on you, but really no you can't influence its sex.
You get feminized seeds from a female going hermie and having one of the male flowers one the female plant pollinate the female flowers.

Actually there is some anecdotal evidence of environmental influence and outcome of sex. And you can have a slightly higher rate of females. But it's not proven under scientific scrutiny, or does it necessarily increase the chances a significant amount, just a little.
Now Fem seeds are a totally different story.

yeah, there's all types of voodoo rumors that are suspposed to ensure a female plant. when all is said and done, I'm pretty sure they're all just rumors.

I never said ensured. But can influence the ratio of males vs females. I'll look it up when I wake back up later.

I've seen various studies, but I dunno. It seems to be a hassle that isn't really worth the effort.
I have seen them turn out positive, but the numbers don't crunch enough for the effort IMO. But yeah, for the sake of fact, I think there are some ways to affect it.

I wish I could find the link.
It was dutch passion seeds that brought this to light.
And for me personally, since following their guide lines the ratio of females has increased greatly.

I've heard this, never seen much on it...Never really looked much in to it though either.
I just remember most of what I have seen said you can't REALLY influence it, as in it isn't a big of enough difference to matter. I think Maggash said that also. Doesn't mean it's right though.

well if u can find it, I would love to read it.. cause even if it only helps a tad ..I figured use all the help to get as many females as possible and also help cut down the chance to get hermaphrodite

Keep the geminating seeds above 22C for females and below for males, this starts at the first point of water so if you soak you soak in 22C and above water, if temp drops so does you chance.
