California is a tough one..Simply because of the cartels and that whole ordeal.
I expect more states to follow suit. Maybe not with full legalization but some decriminalization and/or medical.

Man, I'm not looking forward to what the federal response to this is going to be. Unless the result of the ADA vs. DEA lawsuit happens in our favor and SOON, I can see the feds pulling some very nasty moves in the next couple of months... As for the actual bill itself, I was quite disgusted with it. It isn't really a legalization bill. You can't grow your own, the taxes imposed are ASTRONOMICAL (3-4 times the taxation rate of ANY substance), and the DUI provision has no real science behind it (making it dangerous for any heavy user or medical patient to legally drive a car).

Yea, but a law that unfairly prosecutes people who simply smoke more than the average person isn't a good place to start at... Nor is taxation at this rate. It will make an ounce of high grade cost $600-700 to the consumer, and that's ONLY if the growers still get a marginally fair price of $2400 a pound for it...

The measure in Washington State, Initiative 502, will legalize and regulate the production, possession and distribution of marijuana for residents age 21 and older. The new law will impose a 25 percent tax rate on marijuana when the grower sells it to the processor, when the processor sells it to the retailer and when the retailer sells it to the customer. The measure could bring in $500 million, a figure analysts dispute.
so it will be taxed 25%, three times?

Believe me I agree. But I think these laws are pointed in the direction of industrialization of marijuana so they had to address some of those things.
And to have those people on the border of okaying its use or not they had to address some of those safety issues(or what they consider to be safety concerns)
Those details will be sorted out in the coming months as more states enact laws for the other states to use as a template.

Wow! Washington really got screwed! The DUI thing has gotten shot down here a few times, thankfully. I feel safe because we can grow. I think the entire industry is gonna take some major heat from the Feds so caregivers will be back in business. Just this year they were implementing new regulations aimed at closing down dispensaries and took the banks away from the MMC's.

Very very true.
-------------------- Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Really? Something gets legalized, but in doing so makes it so many, many people are going to be persecuted on different charges, isn't too much of a win.
To me a step in the right direction is wording the propositions appropriately, and not just voting for it because it says it's decriminalizing or legalizing it.

Having outrageous taxation rates that are unreasonable and unwanted is why the Boston Tea Party happened! Fuck your 75% tax on shitty weed!
Secondly, a DUI provision that is based on poor science being put into law is NOT beneficial to ANYONE.

Like I said, those things will be sorted out...I know it sounds redundant but its true, you have to start somewhere. You have to be willing to bend a little, they are...
But I agree...unfortunately it doesn't work like that I don't think.

Having outrageous taxation rates that are unreasonable and unwanted is why the Boston Tea Party happened! Fuck your 75% tax on shitty weed!
Secondly, a DUI provision that is based on poor science being put into law is NOT beneficial to ANYONE.
True but at least now it can be researched more without as much difficulty. We are on our way the law is not great but now all the kinks can be ironed out.

And to just sit back and not question things is really stupid man.
This is beautifully said. I'm moving to Washington in less than a week (has nothing to do with the legalization), and being a medical patient, I'm definitely stressed about the DUI laws. I definitely smoke more than the average smoker, and I will most definitely have more than "5 nanograms" in my system....at all times. I'll just have to see how it plays out. Yes, it is amazing that they legalized it, but it ALSO sucks that the fine print that so many people ignored is going to ultimately fuck us

I dont see how it "ultimately fucks us."
The only thing I see these reforms as, are steps in the right direction.
Things like this take time to iron out and to come up with all the details of how the system will work
Baby steps.

Actually, this law does 100% of NOTHING to advance the reasearch on marijuana. That is up to the DEA, and that lawsuit has yet to have an outcome. The DEA's cyclical arguement that there isn't enough research on marijuana to reschedule it yet it's a schedule 1 drug so it can't be researched has impeded the research on it for decades.
It is NOT fair to anyone to have innocent people thrown in jail and given automatic felonies, just to "iron the kinks out" of some legislature!!! Get it right BEFORE you pass the damn thing!

Well, I gotta be the first to admit there are at least SOME good short-term side effects from this law's passage. 220 Misdemeanor Marijuana cases dismissed in King and Pierce county.
Good for Satterburg and Lindquist. Boo for uptight ass Jack Driscoll!

After looking that up, you're right. My bad. It's a gross misdemeanor. Not a felony charge till you've got multiple priors...
Fuck, I feel a bit foolish now... lol
