Master Kush and Gravedigger under 4kw. 10'x10' flower room.

So, I've got 15 Master Kush clones in the system under 2kw of light right now, along with 5 Gravedigger (herijuana x Romulan) seedlings and the Master Kush mom. And there's a tiny little Northern Lights seedling in there too, that's holding on for dear life. Lol
The room before I hung the lights and added the clones.
A few shots of the light framework and how it was hung...
Here's all the girls under 2kw lights...
And here's a funky pic! The roots on a couple of the clones were growing above the rockwool! Lol
So, the plan for now is to add a co2 system, and 2 more lights above the plants for a total of 4kw. Eventually I'll get more lights, but the current improvements cost too much for us to be able to afford an extra 2 light systems (says my wife! I say it'll be worth the $550! Lol). Its all good, since I don't think i'd be able to efficiently handle that much heat without buying Ice Boxes at the same time. I plan on getting a couple of those though... I still have plans for using my DIY chiller in the future, and it would be PERFECT for some Ice Boxes! I'll DEFINITELY need em once I've got the 9000 watts of lights in there that I'm planning on having in there eventually.
I'm hella happy with how this room is looking. I had been getting a bit frustrated with things seeming like they weren't progressing... the last two harvests I didn't get to make ANY improvements other than a couple little things here and there. I HAD been up to having 6000 watts of lights, and when two of the ballasts went out I didn't get to replace them... I just wish I could afford to get a Co2 monitor to make sure we're not using too much or too little Co2. Next harvest will be a little small, just enough to pay bills. For a month or two, and then the one after that will be another good-sized haul like the last one was (2 pounds, 14 ounces). I'm hoping with that harvest, I'll be able to get 2 more hoods and then 6 IceBoxes to keep things nice and cool in there... I'll have to make sure I can pull a good sized harvest, cause it'll probably be about $1500 or so for JUST that upgrade, not to mention getting a Co2 monitor/controller too... I might just get 3 ice-boxes, and get the rest later though... I know that would save a bundle.
Eh, enough of my stoned rambling... We'll see how this turns out, huh?

Well, I've got 2 box fans and 2 oscillating floor fans, along with a 12k btu AC and a 6k btu ac... I'm only running one right now though, as its not too hot with only. 2 lights going at once...

Not at the moment. Once I get EVERYTHING dialed in, I expect to get a minimum of 2 pounds a month in a rotating cycle. But that means a whole lot of $$ spent... 6 more hoods, bulbs and ballasts would be like 2 grand, minimum. Then there's Iceboxes. That's at least $1600 for 9 if I order em online, maybe less if. My buddy can give me a better deal at his shop... and I'll probably want at least that much worth in controllers and random needs too... lol. At least another couple hundred for extra buckets and then $250 each for a couple controller buckets...
It's a good 6-8 months away to be dialed in to perfect specs, but it's getting there. Just got email notification that my tank and regulator got shipped out today. Hopefully they'll be here by Friday... I just can't wait to see how much it helps the growth!

Man, a year and a half ago, I didn't even have a single light or seed... I would have been STOKED to have a 4kw grow in my garage! Now though from a new perspective, I see it as small and pitiful and in serious need of WAY more equipment. In order to achieve a 100 watt/sq. ft ratio, I gotta pretty much pack as many hoods into that little room as I can (my 10'x11' room has 110 sq feet = 11,000 watts). Either that, or I go with a verticle style grow, but that requires me to have WAY more AC cooling than just those two little wall-bangers can handle.
It's all about whose perspective you look at things from, I suppose. Myself, I've always aspired to be a professional grower, so I look at my own garden with a really critical eye. I don't like much DIY stuff because it usually ends up looking ghetto and unsafe. From day one, any time someone's been priveleged enough to be in my garden, they thought it looked very professional. It actually changed my parents' veiw on it as well. When they heard I was going to grow for a living, they thought it was just another. "Get-rich-quick" scheme for me. Lol. But when I didn't even start growing for 2 years, and when I did I showed them just how much I had to learn about not just growing plants, but water chemistry, electrician work, carpentry, the research into EVERY different type of hydroponics and the pros and cons of each of them I did, they realized I did more than just toss some plants in pots under a light to make some easy cash. Lol

So, after almost a year of growing, spider mites finally found a chink in my armor, and I found them on my mother last night!! I waited till lights-off this afternoon, and DRENCHED the entire room in Spinosad! Lol.
My poor baby looks so bad underneath! I'm so mad at myself that I didn't catch them sooner!
In other news, I topped all the clones last night. We were going to take clones off the mom, but I think we had best wait on that until these mites are gone...

my 24k BTU minisplit was only $1,100 shipped
and i am currently running 6 lights in one room and it holds at 70* with 95*+ weather outside
Well, a mini-split is definitely on my shopping list, but it's a purchase I can wait at least another 6 months to make. Its going into the cold season, and so what I've got will suffice until it starts to get hot outside...

Damn, that's a lot of changes! I'm pretty much using as much of my current equipment as I can without wasting anything... I'm sure eventually I'll end up with some equipment never getting used, but I would probably just use it to set up friends I know who can't afford their own equipment... lol
And yea, my dad was hella suprised. I mean, he's a freakin' botanist. He's worked in the floral industry for 35+ years, and started two different flower shops from the ground up... when he realized I have a very decent grasp on not only plant biology, but horticulture techniques that even he had never thought of before, a much more complicated view on the ecosystem of the plant root system than he could even imagine, and aspirations (and slow studies of) to include self-sustaining techlologies in my indoor garden, he realized that I'm preparing for this to actually be a legitimately recognized industry. Its actually given us an opportunity to bond, which is kinda tough, considering our views on EVERYTHING are just about opposite... lol

So, I wish I hadn't gone on vacation... while I was gone Chris (the guy who was watching my plants) lost a couple of the clones, and the rest of them got pretty stunted...
There IS some good news though! I'm about 95% sure that all 5 of the Gravedigger plants are GIRLS!!! I'm hella stoked about that, because I've really gotta get a new flower cycle going soon! The Master Kush mom is starting to grow into the lights, and I don't think I can wait much longer on starting her flower cycle... I've been trying to open her up and pull the main branches down so they aren't so close to the light and there's more light getting inside her...
I've got pictures I took... just gotta get em onto the laptop and upload em...

Major changes yesterday and today. I got the smaller plants moved back into the veg room, and I've got the flower room on 12/12 now. Tonight is their first 12 hour darkness period.
There's only 6 girls getting flowered, unfortunately. The 5 gravedigger seedlings and the Master Kush mom. I'm hoping that they'll yield me close to 2 pounds, but we'll see about it...
I've got 5 girls in the veg room getting a top-feed 4 times a day for an hour and a half. One of them is getting some seriously intense LST training to keep it nice and short. There's one other that's got a webbing of string above it to help it branch out more...
And then there's the full tray of clones. I'm not going to be able to keep all of them, but I've got 3 clones from each of the gravedigger girls. That way I can make sure I know which ones I like best and can keep the best phenos.

It's time for PICTURES!!!!
I've got everything set up pretty much the way it's gonna be for the entire run... The big girls are all under three hoods. One of the damn ballasts is going out, so I'm gonna have to replace it here soon. It's just not firing the light nearly as bright as it should be...
Here's a few group shots of the girls in the flower room. I've been pretty much letting the Gravediggers stretch up above the screen to try and catch up with how tall the mom is...
And here's what's in the veg room. Not very impressive, honestly... Only one of them is really doing very well, and there's one that's trying REALLY hard to catch up! lol. Then of course we have the Northern Lights seedling in the picture on the end. I think I didn't allow her, or the other clones that are struggling, enough time with the top-feed to establish roots before starting them on the flo-n-gro system... live and learn. keep fucking kicking myself for these damn stupid mistakes I'm making.
And last but not least, we have some root porn of the little babies... I've been right on top of these for the past week. I gotta make these girls go the distance this time. The Master Kush clones gotta make the next cycle in the flower room, and the Gravediggers gotta be saved for the end of this next cycle to determine the keeper pheno. I've got them all labeled as to which plant is which in the flower room, and which clone came from which plant. I'm going to make sure I keep on top of the labeling, so things don't get mixed up and forgotten by the end of this flowering cycle.

Time for more pictures! lol. It's only been 3 days, but there's been some impressive stretch from the gravediggers in the flower room. Between them stretching hella and the ballast for the light that's above the mom going out 2 days ago, they've almost caught up with the Master Kush mom's top branches!
Tomorrow, I'll be swinging through a wholesaler and picking up another ballast or two for $110 each...
Here's a couple shots of the flower room:
And then there's the veg room. The two Master Kush plants that are somewhat sizeable are really starting to explode with growth. The others are coming along, but they were shocked pretty badly, so I'm not suprised that they're limping along a little bit...
The Northern Lights seedling is coming along nicely. I'm hoping that she'll be ready to take a whole load clones from by the end of next month...
And here you can see some of the intensive LST work that went into tying this girl down...
And the tray of clones looks awesome as ever! Checked last night, and I have a 100% success rate with the Master Kush clones!! And there are at least one of each of the different Gravediggers that have roots. Some there are two out of the three that have roots, but I'm sure we'll get at least a 66% success rate out of those girls...

Well, I suppose it's about time for an update... I went down to Cali a two weeks ago for a week, and when I came back, I had some aphids and fungus gnats everywhere!
Unfortunately, I've been extremely broke, so all I could do in the short run was hang fly strips everywhere and douse everything in an H2O2 solution. It's definitely decreased the amount of flies and larvae, but they're still there. I finally got some cash flow yesterday, and so I got some cash in the bank and I ordered more ladybugs, and some nematodes, and they'll be getting here next week.
Fortunately, I do have good news. The most of girls are looking great after the transplant. I lost several of the Master Kush clones in the process, but I've got 8 new good solid girls now in the drip system. There's four Master Kush girls that are not quite ready to go into flower, but they gotta go in anyways. It's 4 weeks into the other cycle, and we gotta get another cycle going. It's not quite as big of a cycle as I hoped the next one would be, but it'll be okay. The following round will be what's really good. There's 8 clones lined up, and they're gonna get a full 4 weeks of veg with 2000 watts over em, and that'll get some great results, I'm sure!
Also, there's good news on the equipment front. I finally convinced the wife that we've got enough money for at least one more ballast (there's only been 2000 watts in the flower room for 2 weeks now), and going to a new place I've been wanting to check out was extra beneficial! Not only did he help me troubleshoot a few of the ballasts I've got (I had no clue where to begin with fixing the 4 dead ones I've got sitting in the corner of the flower room), but I got a smokin' deal on a 1kw switchable he had sitting around. It was a display model with a fat ding in the casing, but other than that it was solid as fuck. He gave it to me for $50, so I walked away with two switchable 1kw ballasts for $180!!! And he tossed me a brand new capacitor for free too! Totally got a repeat customer in me.
Hmm... I think that's about it for this update. Besides that, my wife is bugging me for the laptop! lol
