So I've just started my 1st grow ever and after lurking and looking around various threads doing research I decided that I will probably need some help at some point. I'm up to the stage where my grow room is almost set up and my seedling is 2-3" tall in a jiffy pot and looking quite healthy as far as I can tell. I'll start at the start anyway...
I bought 3 'The Church' seeds from Green House Seed Co. and started off by attempting to germinate 1 seed. That failed for some reason so I tried another and this one has been great so far. I germinated in a glass of water then moved to a jiffy pot once the root emerged. Since then it has been growing on my window sill while I set up my grow room.
My grow room currently contains 3 lamps which I bought because I don't think you can buy those adapters that allow you to plug a bulb straight into a power board in Australia (I don't think they meet our safety standards). These lamps currently have just 1 20W CFL (1300 lumens, 4100K) each but I'm waiting for delivery of some Y adapters and 2 115W CFLs (unknown lumens, 5500K) so soon i will have 4x20W and 2x115W CFLs for just 1 plant which my research tells me will be fine. So hopefully my plant will be okay until I get that equipment. I just moved my plant in there this afternoon. I don't have a fan yet but I reckon the room temp should be ok with only the 3 20W CFLs in there. I plan to keep them on 24 hours/day during vegging. I've also made a shitty reflector out of half a coke bottle and some aluminium foil but I'm not sure how to attach it properly. Any advice? I have limited resources but if there's an easy way to make a better one than this please let me know.
The next part of the plan is to wait until I see a root at the bottom of the jiffy pot then put the whole thing into a plastic pot with 25% perlite and 75% potting mix. I haven't bought either of these things yet though.

Dude, you must get some walls or something around the seeds. You are losing a lot of usefull light due to not having reflective walls of reflectors for your lights

Yeah i'm working on building a decent reflector but like i said i don't have much in the way of resources.
What's the easiest and cheapest way of making the walls reflective and a good reflector?

Best thing for the walls is flat white paint, or panda film imo.
As for the reflector I've seen many aluminum baking pans made into reflectors, don't know if it's the best, but it is cheap.

Thanks for the advice but I've heard on growery that reflective walls aren't very important when using CFLs because the light only travels a few inches before losing potency or something. I'm not sure that this is right but it's the reason i didn't spend extra cash light proofing the walls.

Well light proofing and making your walls reflective are two totally different things. You do want to light proof your grow space. If you have light leaks when you go into flowering they can cause your plant to hermaphrodite out and you will end up with seeded bud.
Now even though CFL's don't put out a ton of light, I would still paint the walls of your space with flat white paint. It's cheap and will reflect light back towards your plant, even if it's not a whole lot.

It's a rented house so I can't paint the walls. It's really dark outside that room so it's not likely that light will get in when in the no light 12 hours of the flowering light cycle if that's what you meant hawksapprentice. By the way your avatar is sick.

Then one thing you can do is buy poster board and put that up around the light/plant.

This grow is going to be moved to another location soon as one of my housemates who originally wanted me to grow has threatened to smash my lights and plant. Asshole!
I'll get my mate who's continuing the grow to keep this journal going if he can.

Well it turns out the guy's a fucking sociopath or something. I thought he was a good guy until last week and now he's trying to get me kicked out of my house. The original argument started because I didn't wash a bowl that was his anyway. He took a photo of the grow room and he's going to show it to our landlord. He's got some problems and now I've got some problems too.

how to get busted letting a roommate,girlfriend,wife,or family know what u are doing.Do not steal electricity pay ur bills ,not having odor control when growing a lot of plants, light leaks. basically stay to yourself no partys, no loud, music be the best neighbor u can be its always the little things like a roommate and wife fighting causing attention to neighbors and then u got cops.get rid of ur roommate before tring to grow
