olivegrowlog 1, indoor

I have grown the luvly and sacred cannabis for a number of years, outside and inside
For indoor cultivation atm I grow in an old small bathroom. I use a 'run to waste' system that I have made up by adapting and refining ideas from others set ups, and things that I've seen.
This is nothing technical, it’s a really easy way of achieving good solid results without the fuss.
Thought I would start a grow log for the plants that’s I’m growing atm
The equipment I use.........
- 80 liter large black tub for the reservoir. Black sided tub means less algae grows as there is no lid. When I have used clear tubs they go green in a week, even if it is being emptied everyday.
- Small water pump on a timer set to water for 15mins every hour or so when the light is on. This particular pump was very cheap and has been in service now for three years.
- Retic hose and drippers, hose is tied to the pots to make sure the drippers don’t fall out of the pot.
- Small fan blows air between the light and the top of the plants. The fan sits on a number of boxes, I remove or add a box to heighten or lower the fan so its always blowing the hot air away from between the light and the tops of the plants.
- Small aircon for really hot days. As the 'growroom' gets the afternoon summer sun on it's external wall the airconditioner helps in cooling the space. The plants grew reasonably well without it in summer, but with it, they dont skip a beat.
- 600 watt globe, reflector and box. I like to keep the light 30-40 cm's above the tips of the plants.
- Timer at the main power source. Inexpensive timers work well.
The reservoir is refilled everyday with fresh water as the timer is set in enough increments to use the entire 80lt per 12 hour cycle when the plants are in flower.
For 18 on and 6 off – grow period, I reduce the watering's to still use a 80lt tub of water a day. This way the water stays fresh and aerated. I refill the reservoir every morning with the garden hose from outside.
Commercial fertilizer added to the reservoir everyday until 2 weeks before picking. I observe the tips of the leaves and growth habits of the plants and adjust the fertilizer accordingly. Never more that 50ml of each part per day.
The light will be turned off 6 hours early, once a week, for the 1st 3 weeks to stretch the flower stalks a bit. The light will be reduced by 15 minutes every week in the last 4 weeks of flowering.
I wont be using any enhancers of boosters, I will be flushing for 1-2 weeks using only water.
I only add 2 drops of PH down every time I refill the reservoir and I havnt tested the PH in a few years (I prob should)
I don't have to worry about filters or smell as the neighbours arnt close.
Fresh air comes from the open back door a few meters away from the 'growroom'
From past experience I intend to get 6-8 ounces per plant.
I have been sent some very nice Lemon Skunk seeds and a White Widow seed. I germinated these with full intent to put them under my light. However when it came time to set up for the next run I made a choice – - Put the seedlings in and wait 2-3 months or put the plants in and wait 6-8 weeks.
I choose the plants , the seedlings are outside and I will clone them when they have grown.
These are some Indica/sativa crosses that I have bred by crossing some different plants that I have had. The strain is virile and tips well, the flowers are large and tasty. Their in my outdoor grow area.
I grew these plants outside whilst my last crop was maturing under the 600w light.
I chose the three small ones and left the big one, which has since been planted in the ground
When I brought them in from out side I gave then a thorough check for bugs. I covered the soil ontop of the pots to keep contams down.
The 3 were quite tall and needed tying down to fit under the light. I thought I would go for a nice green carpet and got myself some mesh.
I was severe and bent them right over.
A few days later and their looking mighty good.
There's a fair bit of room for the flowers to grow nice and tall
I'll have to add at least 1 more layer of mesh which will give me the opportunity to spread the branches and flowers out more
Up dates every week until, all going smoothly their harvested

For a cheap set up and dodgy plants it aint too bad.

Thanks.........
Its been 12 days since the first post of this grow log and the plants have increased in size and volume.
Twice I have turned the light off early by a few hours to stretch the flower stalks.
Another layer of mesh was added 6 days ago. Whilst separating the stalks and allowing light through, the mesh will also support the weight of the stalks when they are laden with buds.
The tips of the leaves are still nice and green so I am keeping up the full rate of nutrient.
I'm havn't cloned these plants, I am planning a far superior strain for the next crop.
if I was to clone, I would clone in week 2 of 12/12. I find cloning at the end of week two means that the next generation will be branchy, stocky and have increased yield.
Will wait and see if they will need a third layer of mesh, depending on how tall the flower stalks are yet to get.

This is not true. Your a clone of a plant means it's the exact same genetics as from what it's taken from. Taking the clone a couple weeks in flowering will definitely NOT give you an increased yield. The amount of yield you get from a plant is ingrained in it's genetic makeup, and that's it's potential. Whether you bring that potential out or not, is up to you by giving it the right amount of nutrients/co2 etc. etc.

He's comparing taking clones from a vegging plant and a flowering plant... two different stages, two different sets of genes. Genes can be turned on or off depending on environment -inhibitors and activators-. A flowering plant grows differently than a vegging plant because different genes are on/off causing different types of hormones resulting in 2 types of growth, lateral and apical... So I think he's saying that taking clones from a flowering plant is better because the organism is in a state of lateral growth, resulting in shorter, branchier clones, a fair assessment imo, you underestimate the dynamic nature of genomes sir...

As i am a smoker of weed, I wont really be happy s0ndmond unless the flowers are foot long and as thick as my arm.
I plan to leave two of the plants until their fully blown. The 3rd I will subsist off in dry times whilst I wait.
A week later and their looking happy.
The one on the left is more advanced than the two on the right.
The two on the right are stretching well.
Have cut their feed down to 40ml of each part as the more advanced plant has a little bit of tip burn. The weather has cooled a tad which has benefitted them greatly.

Looking good Olive! Thanks for showing your setup! It has given me ideas, i plan to automate my watering though ill probably do a recirculating one, as i forget to water sometimes, lol I just flipped my current grow to bloom this week, hopefully I do better this time Pics of my current grow here.

Hey magick81, how you been?
Automated watering is great, the simpler the better, then less can go wrong
I'll be sure to check out your current grow, thanks for the link.
Some pics of the plants now.........
The ripest and tightest is looking lovely and right on track time wise.
The 2 'bushier' bitches are quite ratty, have mites, fertiliser burn and won't be ready on time. 'Ready' for me is when all the hairs go red - resin sacs are full. Then buds start to grow from buds. 'Time' for me is between 2-3 months These sativas seem to take longer under lights.
Luckily I have been able to remain quite stoned of late without having to chop into my girlz.
They have been just on water for a few days now. Will be chopping them up in a weeks time. Would like to leave them a bit longer but am going away and can't expect the non smoking house minders to tend to my plants
All in all though for sativa x's in dirt they have done ok...........
Thanks to a good mate on here I now have some Lemon Skunk to go in next

Nicely Done Love the pics
I'm keen to see how the Lemon Skunk goes. I wasn't able to plant mine as I don't have enough room, lol, so they go into the seed stash, haha I got some nice purple sativas going right now which i cant wait to try(Killing Fields F3) Let us know how your harvest smokes up.
Cheers Magickz
