Time to put this thread to rest.

1oz Total

Grown under a dilapidated Metal Halide and crappy nutrients, not to mention the worst possible substrate I could conjure. 1/2 oz qualifies for mid-grade in my area, and the other half I'm going to convert to hash (Hanky style).

Aquarium strips(soil to coco), good unless your growing true Hydro. Higher resolution strips are available online, but you should practice resolving the difference between bright yellow and deep red before setting out on such an endeavor. PH meters require lots of maintenance and their electrodes burn out eventually. Unless you plan on investing your time in maintaining your maintenance equipment, don't buy a meter (yet).

sounds good thanks!  so the fish shop ones are good enough?  the boxes say they measure 0.2, but from what i have heard fish hobbyists say, they are far from accurate....you like them?  i think i will use them instead of a meter as well.....the cost of all the extras is getting to me lol.

Test strips require that you can actually SEE the difference in color. The trick is you actually need to READ them. In the real world, plants die and and people plant new ones. When pets die, folks get pissed. Aquarium strips are good if you know how to read them, (down to about6.2). Start with the left most side of the scale as printed on the label (yellow). Then move the square right until you know that your test pad is "LESS" red than the next indicator to the right. In my experience the labels on PH strips are some of the most color correct packaging on the market
