Not that bad honestly, but like weed growing it's all about how far into it you want to get. You can get a carboy, and a brew pot for about $100 and all you need after that is some LME, hops and yeast and you're good to go. But if you want to do all grain you'll need to get a mash/lauter tun which I built for about $75. Then if you want you can get a 150,000BTU propane burner, counter flow wort chillers, hop back, stainless steel fermentation chambers and full kegging setup and be set back about $2,000 or so. Honestly if you gather up about $300 you can get a great set up to make just about any all grain beer you'd ever want.

holy fuck dude, so if you drink all that over a week or two you will have ingested 15 entire pounds of honey..
Doesn't alcohol "eat" the sugars of the honey when its fucking and the result is alcohol? Thats how I understood fermentation worked...
So, not in so many words really.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

the yeast eats the sugar and turns it into alcohol, or so I understand but you can stop the process part way and be left with a high sugar low alcohol product (root beer, etc.)

Yes, but in reality alcohol is just another carbohydrate like sugar and therefore has a similar caloric impact. Hence why beer bellies exist.

Bottlin' mead [Re: RasJeph]

Bumpizzle. So I bottled it and its been chilling for a while now. Letting it clear up...next time, I'm gonna get some clearing stuff to expedite that step and minimize the amount of racking I have to do (thus losing less end product).
I noticed the picture makes it look like these have about 3 inches of sediment in the bottom - they don't. I'm not sure why the fuck that happened haha. Its only about a quarter of an inch, maximum.
I took a few sips, it tastes pretty good as is, but I'm sure it'll only get better with age. Certainly drinkable, but I wanna maximize its potential
It does taste better cold.
Next time I do it, I think I'm going to attempt to make it sparkling. A bit more involved there, but I think I can do it. It just seems like it would be awesome with bubbles in it for some reason.
I'll probably be giving some (most) of this away, but I'm going to keep one bottle aside to sit and I'll repost as it ages
