moms second grow, a pictorial

first, the grow space used for moms first grow has been improved and added upon...
the old space was turned into the flower room
and this space here was built into a veg/cloning room
and since its in the garage, and winters here in montana suck balls, i gave the walls insulation in hopes of keeping the ladies warm. seems to have helped a lot.
i made the doors to where they just kinda pop out
the veg room
the flower room
still needs some final touches and what not, but over all im pretty happy with my ameture carpentry skills. took me way longer than i had planned though. lol
the plants...
almost 3 months ago, 6 clones of unknown strains were donated to our cause by a fellow grower. they were originally part of a hydro set up, but were planted into a mix of 10 parts sunshine soil mix #1, 2 parts perlite, and 1 part chicken manure. here they are in a temporary room about 2 weeks after transplanting.
we fed them guano during veg. here they are, outgrowing their containers.
this is where things started to go wrong i believe. while i was preoccupied with finishing the room, these plants slipped into a variety of issues... they got pretty root bound for starters. followed by a ph/salt build up/nute lock out issue of some kind. here they are pretty damaged from neglect, and recently flushed and transplanted into 3 gallon pots. they were transplanted into fox farm ocean forest soil, and were cut off of feeding for a while. i wanted to make sure all the salts were flushed out, plus the ocean forest already has some nutes it it.
i took some clones at this time as well. things werent looking good, just want tp make sure i had a back up plan.
not very long after... spider mites. i hit them with a pyrethrin spray (you can see the bottle in the pic above), saw that they were gone and thought i was done with it. fast forward a couple weeks, and the little bastards were everywhere. 3 plants were so far gone i didnt even try a salvage... out with the trash. and after working on the room with various sprays and foggers, i think i got it. no signs of em on the remaining 3 at the moment anyway. fingers crossed and eyes peeled.
they are still in veg at the moment. the plan is to give it a couple of weeks to make sure the mite problem is under control, then to flower. i have also started them back on nutes, fox farm line.
the survivors...
the surviving three clones taken before mites. i really like the symmetry going on.
not the healthiest looking plants, but they have been through a lot. and they dont look that bad... the new growth coming in is a nice healthy green anyway. i am confident they can make a nice recovery. i just need to get them flowering soon.
im thinking about transplanting them into 5 gallon pots before i put them in flower. i checked the ones i took down, and they were pretty root bound. i assume these are the same. im also thinking i want to trim out a lot of that little stuff from the middle of the plants. im wondering though, especially since they lost all their large fan leaves, if doing so would be taking away any needed foliage?

I've seen em snap back from worse
Also, I'd say definitely transplant with plants that size.

thanks. this whole thing with the spider mites really bummed me out. im hoping im right in thinking this time i really did get rid of them. i really want to get these plants into flowering, but i also want to wait to do so until i am sure the mites are gone. its been about a week since ive seen any. im going to give it one more then switch the lights.
i cleaned them up a little, and tomorrow i am giving them new 5 gallon homes. the tallest one is just over 3 feet. here is a few before and after type shots. im almost scared to see how much bigger these get during flower.

you never get rid of them ime anyway they should become something like removing crap leaves and branches at least a weekly task
the mites happen to love those crap leaves and branches the most as well.
looks like youve cleaned them pretty clean. i wouldnt normally take off that much at any one "plucking" but it doesnt hurt(unless youre making bad cuts and plucks) but i imagine you removed the amount you did due to the mites...
removing by hand, seems to be one of the best methods imo. but you have to pair this with some form of "insecticide" even spraying straight ph balanced h20 on the unders of the leaves once a week, helps keep the mites from getting a hold anywhere(doesnt kill them, just prevents damage) and also, will clean the stomata. which is necessary
because you should/could also be using a neem oil solution. i like to foliar feed a little when i do this as well, idk why. and then a ph balanced h20 rinse a few days after
then the neem a few days after that. in a cycle. and removing the unecessary foliage when you see it.
youll notice the weeds have a particular cycle they like the most i cant say what it is you just have to watch your strains and do what they say when they say

ya, i was kind of hesitant to take so much off... but like you said, much of what i took off was due to the mites. they seem to be taking it well though. thanks for the tips.

consider that plant, although a short life cycle at that age would be considered a shrub or small fruit tree
it can take a serious licking, but you always stand the risk of inducing male flowering due to stress levels
i guess my point is, the bigger they are, the more they can take
i couldnt believe...anything, it kinda shattered my existence watching 5lbs be harvested off a tree, to let the other 1-2+lb finish up, week+ later. i thought any time you took that much of a tree, it would die... it only got stronger...

flower day 15. so far so good. still no signs of mites, fingers still crossed.
got a leaf curling up on me though... any ideas there? also, is it normal for the stems to be turning purple like that?
the three surviving clones are doing good, so is the seed i planted from our last grow.
and the newest addition to the family, with 5 sisters not too far behind.
these seeds im growing were picked out of the bud from our last grow, which were a result of a plant that hermied out. it is my understanding these seeds are "feminized", which is good... but ive also read that these types of feminized seeds are more likely to turn hermaphrodite themselves, which is bad.
so whats the deal with these seeds? are they worth the time? i figure it will be experience either way, but im still curious to hear what you guys think. are there any actions i should be taking now to ensure they wont turn on me later?

From my understanding seeds that came from a hermaphrodite are more likely to become hermaphrodites themselves. None the less, germinate away, and keep an eye out. It looks like you are doing a very good job. Nice clean room, everything is high and dry, keeping on top of any issues as they arise...You are doing more than fine.
