To Co2 or not Co2? Question for the Pros
    #578519 - 08/15/11 01:54 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I run a perpetual flower room and a seperate veg room. After going through all the trouble of implementing a Co2 generator and sealing the room, I'm starting to wonder if I want to keep running it. The yeilds are definitely higher, but I've been reading about some cons too. Such as: 1) High levels of Co2 can inhibit ripening. 2) Co2 sometimes seems to cause otherwise good looking bud to just not have much of a smell, though when ground up it smells good and gets you high just fine.

Has anyone else experienced theese occurances?

If I shut off the Co2 I wouldn't even need the AC anymore and could run the room on intake/exhaust fans. I don't care about yield anymore and only want to focus on highest quality.

Any insight from the pros?

I'd aim to provide the most CO2 in the veg room when the lights are on. Biochemically thats sound.

Mass air flow is the way to go, imo.
Change the air in the room at a rate of 5 to 10 times a minute non-stop.:yesnod:

I agree with this 1000000%

Think about it this way, cannabis evolved on this planet over the last couple ten thousand years with atmospheric CO2 at only about 150-200ppm. Thanks to the industrial revolution as well some natural events, our atmosphere is currently rocking upwards of double that amount (triple if you're in a big city). Natural air from the outside is ALREADY CO2 enriched.

Plus, increased airflow will encourage high bud density, resin concentration and evapotranspiration which all lead to higher quality bud in my opinion. I run a 150ft^3 room with a fan pulling around 500CFM

I'm not growing at the moment due to an odd roommate situation, but I was running a 4x4ft closet with 1200W and 500CFM in it, and a 4x8ft garage space with 2000W and an 8" vortex (Can't remember, like 780cfm?) all at the same time. Nobody said a thing.

The flower room has 3x1000watt air cooled bulbs on a commercial 5.0 Light Rail. The room is 12'6" x 15' but the canopy is only about 10 x 10 roughly.

Thanks for the insight guys. Before I built up my room to where it is now my room sucked, so I kinda don't know how it will be with a kick ass set up without Co2. Guess maybe I'll find out.

Gonna to the mass air flow you most likely won't lose over 5% your average yield with CO2.
And you maybe surprised and not lose that.

Damn that sounds sweet! Do you think the reduction in Co2 would be ok mid flower? It's a perpetual grow so there are plants in various stages of flowering.
