Local Food
    #577316 - 08/09/11 07:36 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

So, my whole life we have eaten these things called "salt potatoes". I eat them probably 3 times a week in the summer. I didn't realize they are something that is really local to my area (an hour in any direction and they don't know what they are).

It seems so bizarre to me because its such a staple of our summertime meals. I can't believe that most people in our country - even my state - haven't tried these things. Its amazing to me haha.

So, does your town have anything like that? I feel like I must be missing out...because I know for sure everyone else is.

Oh sweet, I have family in Syracuse and I've totally eaten those. I knew nobody out here knows about them because whenever I ask I get weird looks, but I thought it was at least an east-coast thing. They're super tasty

I've had them at my Grandmas in upstate NY when I used to stay with her for the summer. One time she boiled them with a whole loaf of spam but I couldn't eat the meat because it was way too salty, Grandpa liked it though guess they it eat all the time. They have this other regional food up there it's like a chili dog but with sloppy joe tasting meat on a redskin hotdog. They call it a "Michigan".

Hmmm, I'm not sure I've heard of that one.

Its probably a fair thing.

Speaking of which, the state fair starts soon. Ugh, the only reason I go to it is for the awesome food lol. The rest of it never changes, same old shit.

If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

French fries and gravy with cheese curds.........hmm I've had fries with gravy, guess I'll try it. Sounds like something I eat on accident with a plate at golden corral or country kitchen buffet.

Poutine is badass and artery killing  - though I prefer the grated cheese version to cheese curd.

And new potatoes are big up in Maine but I've always just had them steamed with some salt and butter, I like my spuds al dente.

That just looks/sounds gross.  Plus needs more bacon.  I'd take a baked potato over that anyday.

I don't know much local food here besides perch and walleye that we get from da lake.  We do have a large Eastern Euro population so if you in the know you can get bootleg Slivovitz (plum brandy)

Poutine is pretty darn good by the way, you need to try it before judging it
