I disagree.
See, if the government cuts spending right now, a whole bunch of people are going to lose their jobs. Not McJobs either, but real jobs that pay well enough to support a family - and a mortgage. And then those people are going to default on their mortgages and we know what happens then. Tent cities, bitches!
There would be less money in the hands of the American consumer and as a result, businesses would suffer too, and the gov would get less taxes, and it would cycle.
Right now you're saying "but inflation!" - exactly. The government needs more in certain areas to spend more to put people to work, to provide social programs that people need (since they have no jobs), and to rebuild our tattered infrastructure - but it also needs to deal with its deficit. That's where taxing the rich and cutting waste (like defense spending) comes in. We end wars and close loopholes, return to the pre-bush rates, and suddenly we can actually afford to rebuild and keep this economy afloat.

It's like this - the economy is one big ship that Obama has to try to steer.
Bush was fucking around on the boat and starting getting piss drunk and ramming into people, then using taxpayer funds to pay his friends to repair the boat (which they didn't do), so there's a few (many) small (large)leaks in the hull and people are pretty damn seasick.
Anyway, Obama is like, hey! we need to use the leftover wood (the big economic ship is made of wood) to fix the holes in the ship!
But the republicans are like, OMG NO YOU'RE GOING TO WASTE THE LAST OF OUR WOOD. See, there is actually enough wood to go around, but the republicans would rather put the wood on the markets and let the people on the ship with the most money buy the wood so that they can have some Chinese people assemble it and then Bush and his friends can use the wood, which is now a luxury sailboat, to go to shore so that he and his friends can "get help and rescue the rest of the people on the big sinking wooden economic ship."
That's not going to happen though.

This shit isn't good with the credit rating. The markets were terrible yesterday already (hey I wonder if they got tipped off?) and with that credit rating downgrade, it's likely to take the whole economy with it.
Obama can't get his ass in line because he the democrats don't have balls and the republicans are fucking rich bitches.
Shit's going to get real crazy pretty soon, especially if the republicans hold out until everyone is jobless and pissed off.
All of north America and most of Europe is fucked now.
I'm fucking pissed off for one. Lets discuss this!
I blame:
- Fox news (49% of American news viewership) and News Corp for preying on naive Christians
- The Republican Party, for screwing the bottom 99% by giving tax cuts to the rich and cutting social programs to pay for it. And for continually holding the American economy hostage to accomplish these goals.

The US gov borrows 43 cents on every dollar they spend. A bump from a 3% rate to a 3.75 rate would make shit a lot more expensive. And it would cause a lot of home owners to default on their loans, lose their house, etc, and the down economy will mean less taxes are recieved by the gov, necessitating further cuts, and on and on and we're fucked.

it's not like I'm upset about it.
It has been a long time coming and I welcome it because I wishingly believe that it will bring on social change.
Even these last couple weeks have opened a lot of people's eyes to the amount of corruption that exists within our government, in the form of special interests/class warefare.
