Iced Grapefruit 150w Grow (finished 11/14)

Alrighty. Well, it seems all my homies back for the summer have cleaned me out on my extra bud...I'm down to my headstash, so before it becomes and emergency situation I've decided to start up a new grow.
Unfortunately its horribly hot on the second floor of my house (where my grow room is) so I'm stuck only doing 1 plant and only using my 150w setup. I always veg under 150w of CFL anyway, but I'll be flowering under a 150 HPS too.
On the other hand, this does give me a chance to try out growing in coir! For this new venture, I've decided to setup an automatic drip feeder. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to go about it just yet, but I know I'll think of something. I'd also like to make it a goal of mine to get some practice cloning which means I'll have to veg for a bit longer than usual.
Anyway, today marks the germination of my seed. I've decided to go with the Iced Grapefruit seed I bought...I've always wanted to grow this strain as far back as the first time I looked into growing.
http://www.cannabis-seeds.co.uk/products/3668/iced-grapefruit.html
I'll edit all the pictures into this first post...if you're interested in feeding schedules and what-have-you, just scroll through and read. This makes it easier for people just wanting to see progress :]
Week 1 (veg)
Week 2.5 (veg)
Week 4? (end of veg)

Week 5 (between veg and flower)

Week 2(flower)

Week 4 (flower)

I'm tolling new strains for a winter grow so I'm going to keep an eye on this one, can't wait. Ive put 4 plants under 150-250 watts which is what you'll be and rotated them methodically and I was much happier with 4 than with 1 or 2, but I had a decent setup that particular time.
Anyway, good luck.

Bit of a misunderstanding there. I actually ordered the seeds from Attitude, I just used that link for anyone who was curious about the strain, because it had all the info put into that nifty little chart there
Anyways, I've set my cabinet up and she should be popping out of the dirt when I go check on her this morning. I actually found some older soil that I've decided to mix in at a very low ratio to the coir...simply because I'm worried about fucking up feeding. I've never had to worry about it (in the beginning) because the soil took such good care of it already. I rarely had to feed before I switched to flower.

Oops, missed a week by 1 day. My bad.
There she be. Its mostly coir underneath, but it kinda stretched past my liking so I stole some dirt from another pot I haven't emptied yet (fully flushed, no worries). I think that'll help keep the top layer moist too, so thats a benefit.
Me thinks she'll be getting her first feeding today.
I might combine this log with some outdoor autoflowers I've got going...I'm waiting on sexing them before I bother making a log...going to check them tomorrow around noon. 4/5 grew, heres to hoping theres at least 1 female in the bunch.

Didn't update because I had topped her right before day 7, but now its recovered and growing.
Had a bit of a P problem but it appears to be fixed.
Shes getting crazy branchy! This is a nice short plant, a trait I kinda like. Looks like shes probably gonna need a lot of LST.

OK, going against my original plan I've decided to flower her now. I was originally going to transplant into a bigger container and take some clones to setup a sort-of-perpetual thing. I've already decided that I don't care to keep this strain as a mother for a perpetual setup - shes too smelly too early on. Shes not even flowering yet and has already started filling my upstairs with green smell. Not that smell is a real concern...but others in my home aren't fans of the cannabis smell, and I prefer to be accommodating to their needs.
So, this is the last you'll see of her in veg. And, the last update I'll make until I see some flowering starting (2 weeks max probably.)
Updates for my outdoor thread coming tomorrow B)

Alright, an update for the sake of updating...its easier for me to stick to a weekly thing to make sure I keep up with it.
Not much progress...the expected stretch. No more than other plants. No flowers yet (I've named this picture "preflower", I hope it doesn't confuse anyone. Its pre-flowering...not preflowering. Lol shit.)
I'm expecting it to be flowering by this time next week.
Updates to outdoor a little bit later! (once I get up there and back...)

Rigid = bad? I think it looks pretty healthy, minus the lower leafs that had some problems in the beginning because I fed too late. Always happy to hear another persons opinion though.
Its under a 150w HPS, might be getting a bit close, I raised it up this morning. The temps have been getting up too high, but theres little to nothing I can do about it. Thats why I don't grow in the summer, its much too hot. I'd leave the door to the room open, but then it'd get light from my veg cab at night and I can't count on myself to remember to shut the door every night.
As for a fan, I've got a bigass prolly 2.5 foot wide fan circulating air around. Its a big closet, I usually have my 400 in there, but this was a "fuck I'm running out of weed I need to grow something NOW" plant

Yea I wouldn't be worried about the rigidness of the leaves, looks like they are just flattening out for more light like they are supposed to.

No pics today, but just wanted to say that she started actually showing flowers 2 days ago. So, I'll call this "week 1" of actual flowering once I get the pics going. Probably Tues or Wednes. Depends on whos doing what...
She could have been showing a day earlier too, so I'ma say about 7 days before she switched. Pretty quick IME.

Woops, a little late on the updating. Got home and did some drinking and forgot lol.
I guess she first was sexed just 4 days ago, which means this is growing quite a bit faster than I thought.
Top shot:
Single flower side shot:
One out from under the HPS which fucks up colors:
This is the format I'm going to try to follow throughout my updating, so long as I remember to.
I think I'll call this week 1 of flower, even though I put it under last week. I always like to count once the flowers start rather than the day I put them in.

Updating today because I updated the outdoor. I like to do them both on the same day to keep shit in check.
My hand is stupidly unsteady today, so I couldn't manage to get an out of the HPS shot...the other 2 came out alright.
No complaints, other than a more significant amount of stretch now. Might be my own fault, but I'm not sure how.

Load them up on nitrogen and carbs if you feel like they are too spread out. They'll fill up nicely. Maybe add some extra lights and let her flower a little longer than normal. She'll bulk right up.
Looks like a good plant to me though. Head stash material for sure.

I have these pretty tight up to the HPS. I have been feeding kinda lightly so I'm assuming thats why it stretched a lot. I burned the fuck out of my last grow because I got careless and I just really wanted to avoid it this time around.
I was going to look into getting some bushmaster, but I just haven't had the money or time to get to the hydro store.
Hopefully I'll have a Greenhouse Lemon Skunk and some Northern Lights coming up soon under the 400w. Its getting a lot cooler now and I'm stoked to jump right in to growing this winter. It makes the terrible blizzards seem a lot less terrible.

Yeah. Its fun and neat for the first month or two. But once you start to get 8 feet of it in your lawn and you forget what grass looks like its terrible.
There is no feeling like that winter time depression that sets in about February/March. Everything just seems so hopeless.
You'll never truly appreciate something as simple as dragging the trash can to the curb through the lawn until you've had to spend 20 minutes bundling up, another 5 digging the garbage can out of the snow bank, another 5 wrestling it to the middle of the driveway, another 45 shoveling the driveway out, another 5 to drag it down, and then another 20 to warm up once you get back inside
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Updizate. I was trying to go lightly on the nutes this time, and have gone too lighly because shes got a slight magnesium deficiency. I fed her yesterday so everything should be caught up and OK again within the next week or so. It has been hot as fuck and real humid here the past few days too, so that really isn't helping. Cold front is coming in Friday.
I see the curly leafs, I'm working on fixing it Its not a ph thing, its because I haven't been feeding her much. Shes asking for more, shes getting it.
At least the stretch seems to be filling in.

Woops, been busy this week.
I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me or my camera or what it is, but I can't seem to take a decent picture anymore. My hand is just super unsteady or something. I want to get a picture in some natural light but its just not cooperating.
Some dead leaf tips which I have addressed accordingly. None of the new growth has it (and they aren't any worse than last week) so I think its all adjusted correctly.
Maybe I'll try a different camera next week. Its pissing me off that you can't see how neat the crystals look on this plant.

Finally starting to turn hairs. Trichs getting cloudy under the scope. I'm thinking 3 more weeks on her will be perfect.
I managed to get 2 pics I liked under the HPS this week, and one semi-decent one out from under it. On harvest day I'll bring her out into the natural light and get some good ones.
Got a semi-heavy feeding today, flush next watering, 2 consecutive feedings of Gravity, flush, maybe one last heavy feeding and then flush through harvest.

Little bump to this thread. I just found out the FemaleSeeds has its own forum. I was searching for foxtailing on this particular strain because mine has really started to foxtail in a few places.
Everyone there said that this strain has a few phenos that will stretch like crazy, I guess thats the one I got.
Also, from what I'm gathering, there is an 8 or so week pheno and a 10 or so week pheno (the 10 being a nice indica). From what I'm seeing here, I think I have the 10 weeker. This would be week 7, and its definitely not going to be done next week. First week of November at the earliest.
I'm thinking chocolope and kushage are up next.

Alright. Update time.
Shes getting into the autumn of her life and has dropped off a significant amount of her fan leafs...probably because I forgot to supplement with some Grow Big for the last 2 weeks...fuck, my bad. Its OK, shes still looking very nice.
This is week 7 already? Well I'm gonna guess she has anywhere from 2-3 weeks left. Leaning to 3, but maybe she'll be ready in 2. Trichs will tell.
Oh! Picture 2 is supposed to show her foxtailing. Shes starting to do it all over her colas. Number 5 shows her shine exceptionally
I forgot to give her some gravity...I'm not sure if I want to bother at this point. I might give her a single feeding of it, but this time next week I'm starting to flush.

Week 8. A lot of people harvest these now, but its definitely not done. Mostly cloudy trichs, still some clear. Oddly, a lot of the stalks have seemed to lose their tops which is weird to me. I haven't been handling it a lot or anything.
I know that some of the tips are burned, I guess I haven't flushed it recently. My bad, I'm on it today. But to be honest I kinda thought it might be done this week so I've been neglecting it a bit.
Instead, I gave it a dose of Gravity because the trichs aren't even close. She'll get one more this Thursday or Friday, and then nothing but water until its done.
I'm thinking probably 10 weeks, so 2 weeks from now.
Note the foxtailing on this strain.

I've started noticing amber trichs this week, as well as significant calyx swelling (from the gravity?) so this week will begin flushing and harvest will either be Friday or sometime next week.

OK, I just gave this a test smoke. I smoke smaller bowls solo, and I'd say the bowl I smoked was about average for what I smoke.
It was interesting, the high almost seemed to come in waves like a trip. Its a really heady high - pretty sativa-y. I'd say I got about 7/10 high from it. Its one of those highs where you can be doing one thing, and look at the clock and suddenly you've done 10 other things and its 2 hours later. I thought I wasn't high anymore, but I guess I am still pretty stoned
I flushed her with a gallon of water today, she was pretty dry. I'm looking at harvesting this weekend - I have Friday off, so I'm thinking maybe Friday. Thats an extra week from when I cut this test smoke (3 days ago) so I'm sure it'll only get better this week.
The taste was terrible, but its because I didn't dry it right or flush it at all.

Shes been under the 400w for the last few days, so she seems to have snapped into full on swell mode now. I flushed her with a gallon of water yesterday and a gallon this morning. I'm going to flush a few more times (probably until Friday) and then see whats good.
I'll either chop her on Friday, or wait until some time next week. I haven't really decided yet. The trichs look fine, and the high was definitely good to go, but if shes going to keep swelling to the degree she is right now I'm gonna let her go a bit.
Down to my last bowl of chronic. Good thing I have edibles and hash to hold me over until this harvest is dry

Wow! You can really see all those trichomes. Looks like it'll be a great smoke

Chopped! [Re: FooMan]

I chopped her down this morning. She was a breeze to manicure. Only took about an hour or so. I wish I still had those pointy hair cutting scissors (broke them in a rage) as this big ass round tip ones just suck.
Either way, it was still quick. I left some leafage on because it was just so damn sparkly. Got a nice new collection of trim started too...I'm going to *try* to save it up all winter/spring and just do one big extract. We'll see.
Shes hanging up now. Buds seem medium high density - but they always do at first. The real test is when they're dry. Most of the lower branches are just popcorn buds, but I attribute that to my only using the 150w instead of my 400. Main colas are thick and smell so good. The trichs were about 30% amber - this plant seemed to grow sativa-ish so I decided to give it a more sativa chance. Although I'm looking for indica, I didn't want to force an indica high from a sativa girl.
Oh, and I stuck her in a dark room for 48 hours before cutting. I've heard a lot of shit about that, but never really tried it until now. I did save a bottom branch that mutated and kinda never grew any buds on it. Just a tiny branch...I'm going to put it in the veg room once my buds finish drying in there. If I'm running the lights anyway, I might as well try to reveg. Theres room so why not?
Will report back with pics, weight and smoke reports

Also, I realize the hairs still look kinda white, but its because this strain foxtailed like I've never seen before. It kept stacking up new calyxes and they weren't showing any sign of slowing. They ended up just kinda fusing in with the thickness of the main cola and its tough to see whats what. If I can get around to making my usb microscope soon I'll hopefully have some trich pics

Well, it dried hanging for a few days, but since the buds aren't monsters or anything they're semi-dry today. I put them in a cardboard box because I couldn't really find a paper bag around here. IME it works relatively the same way.
They should be completely dry by the end of this week. I'm going to save the main colas in a jar to cure, and probably smoke up the popcorn buds real quick haha.
I just smoked a small popcorn bud I broke off. Also smoked some last night. Its a really interesting high. It starts out slow, almost non existent. Then it was a crazy sativa high, and I was doing all kinds of shit (moving stuff around, cleaning)...but now, I'd say about an hour later, I'm forgetting what I'm doing and kinda taking a nap in my chair lol. It might be because I got up early, but I think it went from sativa to indica feel. Best of both worlds. Neat.
I saved a tiny freak branch at the bottom that was strangely stunted and has a single weird calyx on it. I've put it in my veg room with the bagseed I'm keeping for clones. If the lights on, I might as well use it...right? If it revegges, cool. If not, oh well.
I'll try to remember to do pics and a smoke report of the finished (and then cured) product. I'd certainly recommend this strain. Its not cured or even fully dry yet, and I can say this is probably my second favorite strain so far. Smell was a bit of an issue in the beginning of flowering, but mellowed out somewhat at the end. It would have days where I could smell it throughout my house, and days when it didn't smell even in the grow room. Odd. Unsure on flavor and weight, but I'd say the density is about medium. I've heard of people talk about rock hard buds, and this certainly isn't rock hard, but grew in thick and nice.

So, I have a plant in veg anyway, so I stuck this grapefruit girl back in under 24/0. There is new growth as of week 2, but extremely slow, and still seems to be shooting out flowering growth.
There are new white pistils, and those leafs near the top are new, but still triched. I'm waiting to see if it will start growing again. If not, I really won't be heart broken. It wasn't all THAT special (although its a great smoke) so this is really just more of an experiment.

So I posted this in another part of the forum, but I figured I'd come back and give a little update on what happened with this girl.
Here she was on 1/6/12
And here she is today. If I had known when my last picture of her was, I would have tried to wait until the 6th to post.
I didn't know what to do with her, so I decided I'd just keep her around to practice my cloning technique. I'm not so great at cloning, but this wonderful little plant has been steady giving me a few clones every few weeks to practice on. I think I've got it down a bit better now - I found that I like to clone to Rockwool best. It allows me to see when the roots pop out.
Anyway, when I get some of her clones nice and rooted, I'll be picking one to spray with colloidal silver! I'll spray it with the silver for a little bit, and then I will flower this little bonzai plant. She has gone through so very much, I feel like its only polite of me to give her a chance to do what she was meant to do!
I will post a link to that when I get around to starting it in this thread...as thats a whole different project! The next update I post here will be the final update, and will be a link to my colloidal silver experiment!
