Need hobo advice

I copy pasta'd this from the Shroomery, since I figure there are more hobos there. But since some of you don't post there, I'm adding it here...hope you don't mind, I don't do this often its just kinda important.
I wanna go to a concert and hitch hike/hobo myself there
Where should I go to get a ride, who should I ask, etc.
I assume truckers, but I'm not gonna blow the fucker for a ride. I'm gonna probably be with 1 friend. Is it customary to give them some money for the ride? Should I just go hangout at an interstate truck stop that is in the direction I wanna go?
Leftover Crack is playing a concert around here on the 25th, and I really wanna go but its a 6 hour round trip drive and I don't have the money to pay for gas for that kinda shit. And its just one other friend who would wanna go that I could get to hitchhike with me.
So, any tips on not getting murdered and raped would be pretty cool. I know some of you probably know whats up.
I guess I could walk and camp out a few days before, but shit, thats a long walk.

Why not ride bikes to it?

Yeah, thats also an option.
I just don't wanna get my bike stolen while I'm at the concert.

Find a cheap but reliable looking bike on craigslist or something that wont be a big loss if it is stolen, write it off from the start as a trip expense and if you come home with it, all the better.

Thumbing at the on-ramp toward your direction works well. Be sure the shoulder has enough room for the car to pull over so it's not blocking traffic. There are amounts of trust to be taken into account as you ask how far they're going, and the driver is probably more cautious of this stranger about to enter his/her vehicle.
Never put your belongings inside the car before hopping in. Talk at the window first to get a feel of the vibes. Don't be afraid to turn down rides, there's plenty of others out willing to pick you up. Don't fall asleep in the car and refrain from hitching after the sun goes down.
Hitchhiking is a beautiful experience, but sadly catches a bad rap cause people have a hard time accepting strangers sharing a ride together. For the most part I've gotten many rides from former hitchers just trying to help a fellow out. Be safe out there and have fun!

if it takes you 6 hours to drive somewhere, then that's a FUCKING long bike ride.

Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Round trip. Its more like 2.5 hour drive there, 2.5 back. I'd leave a day early, bike there, stay the night (gonna be hammered anyway) and bike back the next day.
I'm not sure my hitchhiking partner would be up to it.
It depends on who I go with really. If I go solo, I'll probably bike. If I go with a few other homies, one of them sure as fuck won't want to walk/bike so he will pay my gas money to get there.
Now I just need to get him to drive my car, because I hate driving on the thruway.

I'm still not sure if you're aware how long that is, or is it on super slow roads? A 2.5 hour drive on a freeway is upwards of 150 miles.

I've done 50, and if I give myself 2 days, I'm highly confident I could do 150.

Right on dude, best of luck. I guess if you've got a decent road bike it wouldn't be awful, I've got a giant clunky mountain bike so that sounds like hell to me, but I hope you pull it off!

Man, get on craigslist rideshares! I know hella people that instead of hitching from Seattle to Cali, they'll hit up someone who's already making the trip, and pitch on gas/food for the trip...
