They are going to tell all non-essential employee's to stay home. I'd venture to guess that all government contractors will still receive their pay.
Money will still be wasted on the drug war.
A large percentage of government employee's will still drag their feet to work, sit around drink coffee for a few hours on the clock, eat lunch, do about 2 hours of actual work, and go home as usual.
I could rant for days but it doesn't do anyone any good.

The fact the republicans need to be a little less pushy about their damn budget cuts; I find it ironic this is the same party that wanted tax cuts for the rich.
And some of the statements some of the house republicans are just facepalm worthy. On of them apparently doesn't know how a bill gets passed or something.
What can you expect.

You obviously have never known anyone who has been a mayor or congressmen. They wont much harder than the general public give them credit for
Sure people have their frustrations with the system. But to say these people do nothing is a joke. These are some of the most intelligent people facing some of the world's most challenging problems.
It's an imperfect system but some people do actually care.

Psssh, you live in the fantasy they try to program you into.
I live in a state where the state supports 1/4 people. I know what these people do, they tell me all the time.

No I grew up in a private high school where one of my good friends' dad was a politician and a legitimate good guy. He was smart as fuck and really cared about making the community a better place.
Dont tell me I live in a fantasy world when you know next to nothing about me.

While I'm sure there are circumstances of intelligent people in politics to say it harbors some of the most intelligent people is laughable. There's intelligent people who advise these people sure, but when the average American votes for these people, you get what you put in.
Intelligence isn't important in politics anyways. It doesn't win votes, charisma and a smile win votes. Carter is extremely intelligent, but not remembered as a great president or politician.

Presidents should have to take IQ tests prior to running for office and they should be made public. It sounds more like you are blaming the general population for electing these people than anything.
But I guarantee the people in office hold much higher IQ's than people of the general public. sure you will have your occasional genius but these people arent stupid. Our country is in a mess and I feel like they are legitimately trying options to help make things better. The job market seems to be getting better.

IQ is some one sided shit though in the end. A general basis, sure, but a terrible thing to go off of alone.

While I get what you're saying, intelligence isn't always an indicator of political competency. I think knowledge is much more valued in politics than necessarily intelligence.

Oh boy, potheads and politics. I find it funny they gonna shut down the government to save some money! Really? They have triple digit incomes! I wanna know how it is in the first place that these pigs make that much. I thought our government was founded and run for the people in america? Now they have to shut down to save the tax payer a few bucks? Ridiculous! !!
How bout we quit invading countries and wasting half a million dollars in one night of cruise middle attacks! Maybe they should concentrate their efforts here in our own borders. Start by wiping out the gangs so people can go outside and not fear being shot or robbed! Maybe some of that humanitarian funding for our poor and homeless! And maybe we should get our own government back in order before we go tlling some other dictator he needs reform!
Btw, did you know Libya has one of biggest fresh water aquifer systems? Something qaddafi has been working on for decades.

I guess it has to do with the fact that we can give out hundreds of dollars to people as a stimulus then six monhts later be on the brink of a government shut down. I also hear shit all the time about all sorts of congressional and executive budgets. I just don't understand how the government can shut down without being on the brink of a total collapse of civilization. I wish i had more time to explain (and read and think) about it. but i gotta pack.

I don't think politician's are dumber than cheese. I do find however that most of them are short-sighted and self-interested. The title of politician carries negative connotations for a reason, despite the fact that there are diamonds in the dirt so to speak. How Congress can decide its own salary is beyond me. Maybe if the pay incentive was normalized, then maybe only people who have it good in their hearts will run for office and get things done instead of fiddle-farting around.
I don't think civilization will collapse but seeing that the government might shutdown just shows how we haven't been doing something right. More importantly than an IQ test, I think anyone campaigning for office should have a firm understanding of what the Founding Fathers envisioned. Furthermore, I think the people themselves forgot what the Founding Fathers sought.
With or without the government, life goes on.

How the fuck can you close down a National Park? Shit, if this gets in the way of my camping plans for the summer I'm probably going to venture off into the mountains anyways. I mean, I'm assuming they won't be paying park rangers if their parks are closed, so who the hell is going to stop me?

I'll just tell them I respect the hard work they're putting in and would love to try some of the finished product, provided they have good fortunes.
Or I'd just leave. And possibly sneak a few samples later in the season. And go back and leave a rating of their work. Maybe they'd appreciate it?
