How long does it take a plant to get 6' outdoors?
    #542407 - 04/02/11 09:31 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Im just wondering if those really big plants you see are started earlier in the year, or if they are started about now??

They're started vegging indoor, then moved outdoor in the beginning of the season.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

About 4-6 months. Depending on genetics and growing conditions. Sativa strains grow quite tall.

So do you think most 9'-10' tall plants end up being like a full year old?

Or do you think they are older?

how long do you have to veg them indoors to get 5lbs a plant if you plant in the beggining of april?

Too many factors man. Until you have personal experience, I would just do what I can and see what results, there is no way for someone to accurately predict how YOU are going to get a 5lb plant.

well I have no idea how to do it since I've never done it...but I'm planning on taking 2 rooted cuttings that have been vegged for a month or two and planting them outside a few weeks after the last frost day for my area. I also dug one plot out to a 4x4x3 cube of dirt that I plan on backfilling with peat moss, black kow, organic fertilizers like bone and blood meal, perlite, a little vermiculite, and some dolomitic lime sprinkled beyond the dug out area to help balance the pH of the surrounding soil...since I've heard that marijuana can have huge root systems if you give them plenty of room...and the key to huge plants is plenty of sun, water, and nutes but that doesn't do much unless you have a huge root system. You also start them indoors to artificially lengthen out the growing season. Hopefully I will start a brief growlog after I transplant my cuttings.

veg a plant inside until 4-5 feet, u will then easily get a 10-15foot plant...talking from experience, yielded 3 n half pound from one plant was like 12feet:docbrown:

I have seen plenty of 6 - 6.5 ft. Plants. But have not seen any of the 10 foot or bigger trees. Them are mythical beasts. Only to be talked about in legends! Nah, but they are not heard of too often.  And 5 lbs per plant, u wish! Again not heard of to often.

Depends where you are located. If your in cali for example their veg season is huge allowing for monsters. If you were in colorado at higher elevation you'd be lucky to have 6-7 footers.

I have summer all year long here on da island. And still have not seen any trees. Most tallest one I have seen so far was about a foot over my head. I am 6 ft. 4 . I do think it has more to do with genetics then even the season. I have seen 6 footers in Michigans short seasons. But true 10 foot or bigger plants are far and few between! But not unheard of.

I'm going to assume hawaii, well yeah your season are shorter but you have 4 thus the short plants. Only way you can get tall there is by using very late maturing strains mainly equatorial ones.

:orly:

I have short seasons? In Hawaii?
Short seasons in Michigan yes, and they do have 4 distinct seasons.

Check your light cycles out. Yes you can harvest for times a year there no problem.  In fact my Trichocereus on the big island flower all year round practically.

quote from something I found..

Because the Earth is tilted on its axis to the sun, day-length also depends on position (or latitude) on Earth. As one moves closer to the equator, changes in the photoperiod are less drastic over the course of a year. At the equator (0 degrees altitude) day length lasts about 12.5 hours on June 21 and 11.5 hours on December 22. In Maine (about 45 degrees north), day-length varies between about 16 and nine hours. Near the Arctic Circle on June 21 there is no night. On December 22 the whole day is dark. The longer day-length toward the north prevents marijuana from flowering until later in the season. Over most of the northern half of the country, flowering is often so late that development cannot be completed before the onset of cold weather and heavy frosts

So as you can see your veg time is nothing compared to southern cali.

edit: Maybe you misunderstood, when I said seasons I ment harvest seasons.

My cousin who started showing me his garen and sharing his techniques with me when I was 14 told me about how you can grow the seeds out from some of the better brickweed that we would get and smoke LOTS of back then. And if you take care of them, the types that come from Mexico will grow to be MONSTERS. He said hes grown a 9ft plant that yielded 5lbs.
He was telling me about all the problems that caused and what he had to do to solve them.

Im sure genetics have a lot to do with the height, indicas and sativas have height differences, thats one of the main differences.

Now, I dont think in CA you have to  start early to get a 6' plant. I dont think he vegged that 9'er more than a month indoors if at all.
A lot of these red bud plants were sativa dominant, but there were always indica looking ones popped in so they were probably a mix. I wish I could find some good brick weed nowadays to find a few goodd mothers..
Tall dense sweet fast Mexican buds..

I also think that 5lb is the true goal that a lot of CA outdoor growers hold in there hearts, under the 2-3lb conservative guesses.

Exactly its closer to the equator meaning you don't have a long veg season if any hence the small plants. The further north from the equator the longer the light cycles allowing veg time. At the equator you will always be in flower mode with indicas. You would need a good equatorial sativa that doesn't respond to light change readily to produce monster trees.

As one moves closer to the equator, changes in the photoperiod are less drastic over the course of a year. At the equator (0 degrees altitude) day length lasts about 12.5 hours on June 21 and 11.5 hours on December 22
