Were the Beatles just posers?

OKOKOKOK. Hear me out before you freak out please haha.
Looking at most mainstream music these days, not very much of it has much heart. Some of it is catchy, very few songs are "good" in my opinion.
It seems most stoners and other supporters of psychedelics are almost always Beatles fans. They made some great music. I will give them that.
It seems like they weren't really all that involved in the hippie culture though.
I'm wondering if there are any "underground" hippie bands from back in the day that might still have something floating around today. I mean, people who were right in the middle of all the shit going on.
It always seemed to me like the Beatles were on the outside looking in, and almost just trying to cash in on what was going on around them.
I could be completely wrong. I wasn't alive during that time period, which is why I'm asking. I've never really heard anyone ask what I'm asking...so I'm interested to hear what you have to say.
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

they may not have been directly involved with the lsd explosion of the 60's but some of their songs reference the going's on of the time. bands that were involved in the psychedelic culture were bands like the grateful dead, big brother and the holding company, jefferson airplane, etc. those bands were underground at the time. their popularity blossomed with the culture explosion. Basically any 'rock' band that was in San fran bettween 65-70.

The Beatles introduced psychedelic rock with norwegian wood on rubber soul. Everyone else was still singing 60s pop rock, love songs, folk, blues....... the Beatles were true innovators.

I'm not doubting their talent or ability, just their reputation in the stoner community is all.

i just want to point out that the stoner community and the psychedelic community are not synonymous in my opinion.

History took a strange turn of events. The Beatles probably would not have evolved the way they did if they hadn't got smoked out by Bob Dylan. They were already established pop icons by the time they were turned on to some real shit.

Yeah, thats what makes me wonder about them. I mean, they were already a bunch of rich dudes by the time they picked up on something real. So it seems like they wouldn't have been able to get the full effect of what was really happening during that time period because of that.
IDK.

I mean, Ringo went on to join a suicide cult, so these guys aren't exactly the first people I'd listen to in regards to dr00gz.
John had some progressive idea's, but what did he do with them? Get high and fuck an Asian chick.

Meh when I was in Jr. High and High School I saw a great many revivals, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Misfits, Rolling Stones, The Ramones, Queen, and while I participated in some of them The Beatles was never one of them.
Sorry Beatles fans I just never got it.

I like some of their music, but I don't think they deserve a special spot in the hipster hall of fame.

The Beatles loved smoking weed and dropping acid and were open about it. They were fucking cool as shit. They could have just stayed with the Love Me Do stuff but instead they pushed the boundaries artistically as well as culturally. Lennon had the FBI and CIA all over his ass. McCartney is one of the biggest stars ever to promote marijuana, calling it as safe as green tea. All their records are great and from Rubber Soul on they're unbeatable. They called bullshit against war, discrimination, drug prohibition and so on. They were fucking awesome. We live in a far better and freer world because they did what they did. Where's the love people? They fucking paved the road we enjoy walking down.

Is a 16 year old guy having sex w/a 16 year old girl a pedophile?
If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

I agree with you there
Its not that I dislike the Beatles. They have a huge collection of music and did a LOT of different styles. They have songs I love, and songs I hate. It seems I like more by JA and the Dead.

He made social and political change through his art, and he even got a man freed from prison with a song. He influenced an entire generation with his subversive views on religion and politics while still retaining his artistic integrity and selling #1 albums. Also he is 1/2 of the greatest song writing partnership of all time. Anyone who doesn't understand the importance of John Lennon does not understand rock and roll. Goddamit boy he was the king of the hippies...... know yer history.
