AK-48 FFOF 300 watt CFL Indoor SCROG HARVEST! COMPLETE

Day 28

This will be a once a week journal, with mostly pics and some info. Feel free to ask questions or throw out suggestions. Here is a list of things I have change since my last grow.

Move from 8 inch pots to 10 inch
Cut the FFOF with 30% Perlite
Using a screen
3 plants instead of 4

Everything else is about the same.

4 weeks ago to this day I dropped 5 femaleized AK 48 seeds in a shot glass of distilled water. After 12 hrs I put them in solo cups with 50/50 FFOF and Perlite. They all popped 2-3 days later.

You can see some spots on the lower leaves of some old damage. They started showing deficiencies after about 2 weeks and I fed them half strength grow Big. 3 days later they got a teaspoon of Roots Organics Trinity. They were transplanted 6 days ago into the 10 inch pots.

I have never grown scrog style, but your screen looks a little low to me.

Actually if you're not having any problems bending the plants over to keep them under the screen then I'd say you are A-OK with your screen height.

Nice screen what is it made of and did you make it yourself?
Are you planning to go from beggining to end with the 300w of cfl's?
Or are you going to like throw them under a HID light towards the end. I am interested to see how much you get from this setup.

So far so good. I can see how having it a bit taller would make it easier.

The screen is hammock material that I cut up, and I'm using dow rods and screw hooks to hold it up.

The plants are currently under 213 watts to Veg and I will bump up to 300 when they flower. This is my last CFL grow I hope. I hope to buy a 400 Watt HID during the next 2-3 months.

I just finished some AK-48 that I grew out to test low cost seeds to see if they grow good bud. I have no complaints.

he he he... so the screen is gone. 1 inch holes are too small. I broke one of the tops off of a plant and a few fan leaves trying to pull them threw. 2 grows in a row this has happened, but at least this time it was during veg growth. So I added one of my mothers to the cab and now I'm back to 4 plants.

Day 36

I'm LSTing all of them. They were all watered last night. When they get watered in 4 days, which is 2 1/2 weeks from transplant, they will receive their first feeding of half strength grow big.
I would like to water them once more and then one full strength feeding of grow big after than before I switch the lights over. We will see.
I've found female pre flowers on all of them.

I might still put a screen back up in a few days and then force. A sort of modified scrog. I will use to net for spacing and maybe some training. We will see. I was thinking of using string and tying it from hook to hook and creating a web net.

They are under there new lights, 318 watts of CFL total.
I have put my web net up.
All 4 plants were watered yesterday.

I set someone up in a closet using x2 75w cfl's @6500k to veg, and x3

300w cfl's@ 2500k to flower and they did just as well as the same strain I had under a 1000w hps. Except his did better on the fukkin electric bill!

In all it took about an hour and a half, but that was broken up over a couple of days. the 1st net took most of the time. It only took about 10-15 mins to weave the 2nd around the hooks.

Fox Farm products (Grow Big and Tigerbloom) say on the bottle 2-3 teaspoons per a gallon for full strength feedings and 4 for heavy strength. During my first three grows I would give them 2 per and sometimes less. This time I started feeding 2 weeks after transplanting into fresh FFOF and I feed 3 per every time.

I was always afraid of overfeeding. Well, I believe I ended up not feeding them enough. No more I say. :grin:

Day 31
2nd day of week 5 of Flowering

So I decided to flush my small plant last night and I opened up the cab to find what you see in the first pic. I went ahead and fed it today. Hope that fixes it...

Besides that small set back, things are going awesome, but the temps are getting out of control outdoors and it's making it harder to keep the temps under 85 in the cab. It is impossible to keep it closed with the lights on. I think the damage may have something to do with the heat as well.

The plants started to show signs of salt build up over the last week so I cut back on the nutes. They will receive plain water tomorrow, one more very light feeding mid week, and then I will flush on Memorial day. I have already seen some amber trichs on a few of the plants and the flowers are fattening up nicely.

So I backed off on my feedings because I though the plants were burning. After a heavy watering 4 days ago, the plants have gone down hill fast. the flowers are still fine, and there is only about a week left to go, but still...

So I gave a nice healthy feeding and we will see how they take it. I will flush in 4-6 days.

As you can see in some of the pics, here is the damage left over from my underfed plants.

They are looking better and getting their green color back, because 2 days ago they were much more yellow. So this is the last week, I will flush them in 2-4 days.

I would estimate, I'm seeing 5% or so amber trics.

They are red and retracting. I would say the pistils are 75-90% red. Amber trichs are at about 5-10%.

These seeds (Nirvana AK-48 Feminized) were advertised as an early finisher, and I would have to agree.

I've kind of been wondering this the whole time you have been doing this log but how far do you keep your lights from the canopy? I never see any lights in your pics so I'm assuming you just move the plants/lights to take better pictures, but how far are they when they are normal? I'm just guessing but I think you keep your lights pretty close to get those results...

Thanks dude! The buds are a lot denser than I am use to or even expected. I hope the weight turns out where I want it!!!

As to your light question, I started them 6 inches away from my ladies and by the end of their life the lights were 8-12 inches away. The move was due to temps going up. I really can't keep them any closer in my small cab.

I'm going modify my light for my next grow. I'm going to replace my 42 watt CFLs with 84 watts CFLs. They started carrying them at my Local Big Box Store. I'll turn the fixture there in sideways, and build my own air cooled hood. My goal is to lower my temps while adding 200+ watts of CFL.

I know I said I wanted to get a 400 watt HID, but I had to drop some money for a carbon scrubber. The smell was getting out of hand. The homemade one was not cutting it anymore, so the light had to go on the back burner.

Like I said before, the scissor hash worked awesomely... I just made this ISO has overnight. This is half and I'm smoking the other half now. It was made with just the fan leaves with limited to no visible trichs. .2 grams

I will make some silkscreen hash in a day or two and post that. I expect 1.5 g

Small Plant - 16 grams
Most bud sites plant - 25.6
Topped Plant - 25.1
Largest bud plant - 23.1

Total 89.8 grams
Just over 3 ounces, which is the perfect amount for my wife and I until next harvest.

I don't know how my results stand up to expected CFL yeilds, but I do know I reached my goal of 3-4 ounces. My ultimate goal in growing is just to supply myself so I never have to buy Mexican Brick weed again.

I have achieved that for at least another 2-3 months.

This is my mother. I've taken 3 rounds of clones from her. I bought a 3-4 gallon square deck pot for her. She had been in a 1 gallon container for the last 3+ months with no problems. With all the clones I've taken, she is perfect to throw under a screen.

Pic 2
2 clones I threw in a 1.75 gallon pot. They are 3 weeks old from transplant to soil. Figure these will occupy the far end.

Pic 3
Got my air cooled hood/compartment built. I have replace 3 or the 42 watts, with 84 watt cfl's. I will replace the other 3 in about 3 weeks, about the same time I flower. The temps have dropped 3-4 degrees!!! I was worried about the summer, but now I'm cool. :grin:

Are the larger bulbs actually running cooler, or are the temps just cooler because you've got the air-cooling going on now? Even for someone who smokes multiple times daily CFLs really can supply you with all you can smoke.

I can't imagine that the bulbs are running cooler. I think the hood is bringing them down. I also can't forget I have 3 bulbs left to add.
