We have olivine(peridot) here on the island everywhere! I have picked probly a good half pound or more from crushed gravel they use on building sites. Most are tiny probably less then a. .10 ct. But they are heavlily included. Nice green stones none the less though. I will get a picture of them here in a minute.

Used to collect Opals when I found them around up north, also lots and lots of fools gold when I was a kid

Yes, the facets in the small containers are worth some loot. Not all. I have a couple sapphire that are worth the whole lot I paid from all them. I also have an alexandrite and a couple .20 ct diamonds that would fetch a fair bit of change too.
The hawaiian peridot and the polished stones I don't believe are worth much the way they are.

They have a gem show in the city near me I went to when I was a kid. Loved it.
I got a really cool (not clear) emerald cut stone from there for like $15. Wish I'da kept it, I have no idea where it is but it was cool.

I got into collecting and jewelry making as a hobby. And am now trying to make a business out of it. Me and the ole lady make gemstone jewelry and also have a bunch of semiprecious beads for that. But jewelry making is everywhere here so hard to find a nitch.

Neat. I'd like to buy a bunch of CZ's in various colors just to have a sack of really pretty realistic gems.
Leave it around places for people to see it accidentally and think I'm some kinda crazy drug czar with bags of gems laying around 
IDK where to buy them loose for reasonable prices though. I found one in a park near my house and thought it was a legit diamond until I brought it in to the jewelery store and the lady laughed at me.

Yeah, ya know I am not even sure where to get cz from. Gonna have to do a seaarch and see what I come up with on that. Sworvski crystals have been cheap stones for most people lately.

I like tanzanite, silver, and jade primarily.

Tanzinite: "the one generation stone"
At the rate gold is climbing in price, silver is about all we can afford anymore. My wife is into silver while I lean more towards the gold. I like the color changing stones like alexandrite. Whilei also am in love with a natural yellow diamond. Super freakin clear! I could stare into it forever. Jadeite is nice and I really like the plum color aswell as the green.
