MFDoom, Need some Disc Golf advice
    #537389 - 03/16/11 12:34 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

So I had an awesome driver a couple years ago that I ended up losing. Can't remember for the life of me what model it was, but nothing I've thrown since then has flown as well

I throw backhand and have a pretty decent drive. I own two wraiths and two valkyries (random purchases/gifts left me with doubles) I'm thinking about trying to get a different driver that's more compatible with my backhand throw, any suggestions?

Looking at the innova website I"m thinking maybe it was a starfire, but I'm not sure about that....

is innova the only company you throw?

here's some good backhand discs that you should check out.

Innova - sidewinder, roadrunner, destroyer, boss

Discraft - surge, avenger, nuke, avenger ss

Latitude 64 - vision, halo, river

Dga - tsunami, rogue

Gateway - sabre, illusion, spirit

test out a few different models and practice in a field to see what's most comfortable for your form.

i just went through the list of my favorites from different companies.

you might like other discs so just start experimenting.

Innova is just by far the most common out here. Discraft and Innova have such massive selections in all the stores it seems weird to venture away from them.

I have a sidewinder but I usually use it for big banking inside-out hook shots around trees etc. I guess I'll give it a try on a long drive and see what I think, but IIRC I felt that it had too much turn and not enough fade.

My friend has a nuke (his brother just broke onto the pro circuit, so he probably has like 80% of the discs you have there) so I should give that a try too and see what I think.

For backhand do you look for discs with generally lower speed and more glide or the reverse? Or does it even really matter? In reality it's the same thing once it's in the air....

i just go with what feels better in my hand.

the reason there are so many discs is everyone likes different things and throws differently.

just start testing out plastic until you find the ones that you're most comfortable with.

dgcoursereview.com is an awesome DG forum with some pretty solid advice and reviews.

i'm usually in the technique and strategy, and equipment section.

I'll have to check that out. I've got pretty good distance and accuracy, but I want GREAT distance and accuracy. Never hurts to improve.

Just got back from 9 holes here, finished 2 under. Not too shabby since it was only my third round this year

hell yea, the best way to improve is to play with people that are better than you.

start entering tournaments and watch the lines people use on each hole.

i watch alot of youtube videos of pros like will schusterick, nikko locastro, ken climo, dave feldberg, gregg barsby, jesper lundmark, ville piippo, paul mcbeth, bradley williams, jay reading, and matt hall just to name a few.

practice is key and putting is the most important part of the game.

"drive for show, putt for dough."

See, that term pedo gets thrown around a lot.
Is a 16 year old guy having sex w/a 16 year old girl a pedophile?
If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

disc golfing is the bomb diggity. just wish we had more than one course in this podunk town I live in. my home town has about six or seven to choose from but I don't make it back up there near enough.

So what's your choice on weight? I can never quite tell if I like heavier discs or lighter for longer drives. For putts I like lighter discs because they float more and I get better accuracy (unless it's a pretty windy day then I use my 175g Birdie) but on drivers I can't quite figure it out.
