Odd germination issue

So one of my seeds I'm trying to pop is giving me a little trouble in a way I've never seen before. 4 of them germinated perfectly, and one of them is being stubborn. First off, these are pretty old seeds so I was expecting some sort of trouble with the shells being too strong, or too dry etc.
Basically this seed germinated in under 24 hours, I could see the shell poke open and the very tip of the taproot became visible. Then, it literally just stopped . I can still see the little taproot and the shell is split, but it hasn't made any more progress in the last 36 hours, almost like the shell is just too hardcore for the poor little seedling to split it open.
What do?

I had this same exact problem with one of my seeds and my seeds where pretty fresh. I planted it anyway and it began to grow but never sprouted. ( I dug up the seed a few weeks later and the tap root was very small )
I would say plant it and see what happens but expect it to not make it.

I had one that made it all the way out of the dirt, opened up to its 1st little tiny set of leafs, and never went any further. Gave it 2 weeks, nothing.
Don't write it off just yet, but don't hold your breath on it coming through either IMO.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

Carefully pull the shell off and plant it. Had the same issues a few times. You have a 50/50 chance either way, of it making it.

I just gave it a tiny squeeze along the seam and it opened a bit, I'm hoping that was all the encouragement it needed to open some more. If that doesn't work then I'm going to pull the shell off tomorrow morning and plant it. I guess we'll see

Usually I just plant it if its doing that. It will start growing and shoot up and the cotyledon will push it open, sometimes I have pulled the shell off without bad results.

Pull the shell off I've done it a million times and it will be fine esp if the root has been out of the shell a few days already.
