TOOL - The Ultimate Review
    #530095 - 02/23/11 08:28 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

It's an old documentary.  I hadn't seen it until today.   it's pretty good.  it's a history of the band from the early days to now.  it does a good job of putting some musical context to the timeline as well, regarding what was trending anyway.

I actually watched all 9 of those.  Good stuff dude

Distracted me from my poker for an hour and some change.  and I don't do that for just anything   They really are an awesome band.  I like when the guy in the last video said their music won't lose it's integrity over the next 20 years.  Their stuff will still be VERY relevant then.  If history shows us anything it's that the music industry is going downhill and their definitely at the top of the mountain as far as real musicians, with a few others of course.  It went from Nsync and the Backstreet Boys to Justin Beiber in ten years.  Maybe it can only get better from here, who knows?  I imagine you as the guy sitting in the chair with glasses breaking Tool down like a scientist

  That guy's had some personal contact with the members, as you saw.  I wish i had that kind of insider status.  I think he's right about the music holding its relevance over the next couple decades.  I'm really looking forward to what they've got cooking right now.  When i was in hawaii a couple buddies were walking down the blvd late at night and they hear a knock on some glass, they look over and it's Justin (the bassist) and danny (the drummer) smiling.  Anyway, they partied with them for a while and one of them let the cat out of the bag that the next album is going to be a double album.  Also heard to look for some east coast dates in the fall.  no europe this year however.  :frown:  not a bad documentary, but nothing really new was presented.

richmond would be your best bet i think.  I was thinking about seeing them on the east coast next time too.  i've never been to a show on that side of the states.  if they announce a show in your area i'll let ya know.

I was thinking Richmond too actually, maybe a couple other places up north of Richmond, and if I got lucky, an amphitheater that I've been to many concerts at and is roughly an hour away.  Lots of big bands have played there.  I see Tool coming to like D.C. though if they came around here.

here's one i just discovered.  it's really bad ass actually.  shows what the last tour was like.  they've since added additional lighting rigs and what not.  The documentary didn't really even mention all the onstage antics over the years.  there's been some really funny and cool shit go done when their on stage.

here are a couple like i just mentioned.

Haha, the first one with the fan was hilarious.  He didn't miss a note in the song and put that fucker in the rear naked choke   Fuckin awesome, and the fan was still rockin out   Tool is definitely one of those bands with almost a cult like following.  That's good though, unless they're like stalking you and shit.

yeah man it's  a cult following for sure.  lots of good people and just as many crazy ones.  The fan club is called Tool Army.  We have gatherings before the shows.  I met soooo many really cool people at these gatherings.  i've got life long friends and travel buddies from these gatherings before shows.  hawaii was just epic because it was like 4 days of good drugs, good friends who i have a lot in common with and tool.  anyway, going to portland to meet up with a few of them for an alex grey event in a few months and then to denver for deftones, then sf for the last deftones show of the tour.  I got some vip passes for that.  then, of course, burning man.  Plus there are four of us that are also planning on going on one of these retreats in brazil.....

Sounds fuckin sweet dude.  I'd love to travel regularly.  Deftones are a good show.  I've seen them multiple times.  My uncle was actually about to get run over by a bunch of amps on a cart one time that the roadies were pushing down a hall after the show and Chino pulled him out of the way and he got to talk to him for a minute.  I remember once I was front row at a show and the Deftones were playing and Chino was drinking out of this huge wine bottle and passing it around to the front row and they'd pass it back.  Pretty cool.  Deftones rip ftw

wow, that's rad.  I'm really excited to see them.  I'm just nervous about the screaming and the crowd.  both venues are GA.  so shit could get rowdy.

From all the times I've seen them, it's not TOO bad.  I mean you've definitely got your moshing and crowdsurfing and shit, but there was definitely spots you could chill and just watch the band play.  A lot it depends on the venue though and the overall vibe of the place and crowd and shit.  You know that though, apparently you've been to concerts before   Didn't the bassist get in a really bad car wreck.  Can't think of his name right now.  Is he back or are they just using a fill in for the tour?

It's like a weird name, can't think of it right now.  Sucks you missed 311.  They're a pretty good show too.  Not a lot of crazy shit or anything, but some lights and good tunes and just good vibes in general.  I had a good time anyway.
