With a little luck we'll get there.
Yeah homie, you're fucked. If you're not spending at least 10-15K of that on grow equipment your room is gonna be a joke, and I have no idea how you plan to live for 6 months off of the remaining 5-10K with 4 people.
Also, reading books is NOT the same as actually doing it in real life. Good luck, but don't expect to sell ANY of your first harvest at a reasonable price. You're gonna have to straight give it away at first until the quality catches up.
How big is the space you're growing in? How many lights are you going to run? Clones? perpetual harvest? Sea of Green? straight through from veg to flower in one giant room, or alternating sides? I'm also curious about which state you're going to.

Haters gonna hate.....
I can understand you telling us we have an up hill battle because we do. But telling us we are fucked is wrong. You do not need to spend 10-15K on equipment and I'm going to prove this to you.
I'm making a youtube channel for those who want to follow our progress and see what it's like starting a grow house from scratch with 20k.
We have 4 1000w HPS lights for our first grow room. 9x10. A room dedicated to mothers and veg. All of this will be shown in the video. No perpetual harvest. One big harvest. And we have another room to add 4 more 1000w as soon as we start making money.
No hating gonna hate, reality gonna be real. 4lbs will get you maybe 2lbs on your first harvest. I would love to be wrong on this, but I would be VERY surprised if you are able to pull more than 2-3lbs from those lights your first (or even second or third) harvest. That'll be maybe $3-$6K return depending on where you live. That's going to take you a LONG fucking time to turn a profit at that rate. I'm just saying you need to have a backup plan. You have this fantasy in your head where you can just go grow a shit pile of weed and get rich, but you need to be more realistic about it in my opinion. First off it's a heavily competitive market, so you'll need to be growing quality herb in order to be able to find a buyer, and then you'll need to be able to grow enough to have a consistent supply. The people who make money growing weed are running 20,000W warehouses (at least) and drop off a pound a week to different dispensaries. Consistency and quality is the key, and 4KW is a joke in this game.

well yeah, black market always pays close to double, but I just assumed since he's moving to a (still unnamed) medical state that he would be attempting to sell purely legal buds.
I would also like to hear his plan for gathering caregiver cards and networking with various buyers/distributors. It's a very political market.

Black market here is about $2,500/lb, dispensaries pay maybe $1,500 if you're friends with the owner.
also, Quote:

So all this talk about residents deserving blah blah blah is useless because he's clearly moving to a state with medical mj.

Not in the slightest. I've just seen far more than my share of half-baked business ideas rife with misplaced optimism and I'm trying to ground this discussion in reality.

Is that an aerogarden you're using for cloning?

well if you already owned it then that's great. I was afraid you had dropped $150 on it for a new one instead of getting a 60 site actual aerocloner for the same price.

You agree with Harry because you just wanna hate. And to me that's fine. You say lose 20k like we're fucking gambling it off playing poker for a living. We're investing our time and money and I bet your just jealous because NO ONE would ever invest 20k in you.
You'd be better off to empirically consider your critics' arguments rather than immediately dismiss them as useless pander. We have NO reason to hate just to hate, so if we're saying you've got a rough future ahead, you might want to take our words into consideration and take steps to avoid that, rather than just assume we're being negative for no reason. I have FAR more experience than you in this department, and it makes me chuckle to see that you think you're fine when I've provided myriad reasons that you're going to need some help.
Oh, and I've had FAR more than $20K invested in me

Well considering she has NO experience, then I would say every single day of my entire growing career.
And since the minimum business loan is $100K, then I think you're capable of handling that math. Right?

Yes. I'm on a temporary hiatus from growing now that I'm done with school. I landed a sweet gig as a scientific consultant in Denver so I have no reason to grow at this point other than personal supply and hobby.

You're at 12 views already! only 999,988 more views until we get to see your legs!
On the plus side, I'm VERY pleasantly surprised with how healthy your ladies look. A bit overwatered and your pH is slightly off, but overall a very large for you

people smoking the bud don't give two flying shits how long it took to flower. It's all about novelty, you and 15,000 other people are growing those strains so the people at the dispensary won't even take them off your hands if YOU pay for them to take it.

Oh God no, not in the slightest. Just in all honesty, you should be shooting for strains like Sweetest Cindy 99 that combine all time classics in a new and exciting way, or Blockhead which is incredibly well known, but (out here at least) almost impossible to find. Either that, or stuff nobody has ever heard of, but smells like love, tastes like jesus sperm and gets you so high you're half convinced it's opium.

Sound advice. My suggestions are based on the market here, I'm not super clued into the Cali market aside from it being super flooded up north and still reasonable down south (but still pretty competitive since growers from up north just come down and sell)
