The problem right now is that the west coast is flooded with bud. To make any kind of profit it has to go about 2-3 states inland, not that it is legal to do so

It's not unreasonable to believe you can survive growing weed starting off with 20K
Is he going to get mad rich quick? Fuck no.
Takes years of practice to grow good weed consistently, and the price out here is just too low right now. You lose money selling LBs here, the only guy making a good profit is the street dealer.
