I actually just posted a new thread in the hash forum explaining most of this. Used monofilament mesh (which only cost a few dollars) just like in Bubblebags---
This pic is the monofilament mesh you can get from Amazon.com for only a few dollars, next to a Bubblebag for comparison. I only used three different sizes, worked great.
It comes in 12" x 12", and 12" x 24" squares.
In my thread in the hash forum I first strain the ice and plant matter through a metal colander from the kitchen, then I use a 190μ mesh screen to catch debris.
Then I first siphon all the water away from the bottom layer of trichs before finally pouring that onto a 36μ mesh and rinsing it further with water.
This is the hash sitting on a 36μ after being rinsed.
You can put together a full-melt bubble laboratory for under $30 if you're thrifty. Even with access to Bubblebags I will still use this other way instead sometime in the future.

I agree that good dry-sift has some more flavor, and more complex flavor. But, like you said, this is an easy process, AND I get everything desirable from the first run. I got nothing worth keeping from a second run of the same material.
Still has great flavor- though nothing beats properly cured bud for flavor, with "cured" dry-sift getting 2nd place in my opinion. I say this as if I have jars of kief laying around hahaha, not the case. Sometimes water hash can beat mediocre kief for flavor though.

The above out-of-focus pic shows how sturdy the "clear domes" are, you can take the screen out of the bowl and look at it. I had bad lighting for the pic.
This is what is sometimes given the shorthand "fmcd", that is full melt clear dome...I think it was Bubbleman that came up with that terminology, but Iam not sure. It melts into damn near nothing on the two screens I use; just the tiniest bit of ash remains.
When you poke the cooled-down hash bubble with your finger it's a bit sticky still like a plastic-honey.

First run quick-washed iso hash oil (a.k.a. QWISO), using 99% isopropyl.

A 16oz (473ml) bottle was less than $2.00 here in a grocery store. Though I don't usually see it in most stores.
