Geocaching / Letterboxing

Okay, so I was having a look through our grow guide section, and I saw this:

Quote:

This guide focuses on the indoor growers choices.
Outdoors is a whole 'nother world, however if your doing outdoors ALWAYS check your locations coordinates on the geo-caching websites.
Those bastards put caches EVERYWHERE, you don't want your grow being one of them.

I was confused by the term geo-caching. So I googled it, and I came up with this, from Wikipedia:

Quote:

Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook where the geocacher enters the date they found it. Larger containers such as plastic storage containers (tupperware or similar) or ammo boxes can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little value. Geocaching is often described as a "game of high-tech hide and seek," sharing many aspects with benchmarking, trigpointing, orienteering, treasure-hunting, letterboxing, and waymarking.

Geocaches are currently placed in over 100 countries around the world and on all seven continents, including Antarctica. After 10 years of activity there are over 1.2 million active geocaches published on various websites devoted to the activity.

Which I found interesting.

Also, I wasn't sure if I'd heard of "letterboxing," or not, but it sounded interesting. So I clicked on that one. (Come on, you know how it is.)

Letterboxing seems to be something similar to geocaching, but without the GPS.

Quote:

Letterboxing is an outdoor hobby that combines elements of orienteering, art, and puzzle solving. Letterboxers hide small, weatherproof boxes in publicly-accessible places (like parks)and distribute clues to finding the box in printed catalogs, on one of several web sites, or by word of mouth. Individual letterboxes usually contain a notebook and a rubber stamp. Finders make an imprint of the letterbox's stamp, either on their personal notebook or on a postcard, and leave an impression of their personal stamp on the letterbox's "visitors' book" or "logbook" — as proof of having found the box and letting subsequent letterboxers see who have visited. Many letterboxers keep careful track of their "find count".

Seemed cool and I figured I'd share. I was wondering who here has heard of this, or if anyone's done it.

I know of geocache.  The one I was doing you find the cache and there is a piece of paper and a small token.  You sign the paper and then take the token and leave a token for the next person.  It's pretty fun.

I've done it a few times before. A buddy of mine got a GPS way back before everyone had one in their car. He still does it from time to time I think. Hes put a few out there, and does an educational booth at wildlife events and stuff.

I accidentally found one near the lighthouse down the road from me. If I hadn't known what it was, I woulda thought it was some kind of crazy secret society haha.

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

# Muggle – A non geocacher that is in some way preventing you from finding a cache.

# Muggled - Being caught by a non-geocacher while retrieving/replacing a cache; also, a muggled cache has been removed or vandalized by a non-geocacher, usually out of misunderstanding or ignorance.

lol theres not much more to say, I was walking on a boardwalk and seen a basket underneath it so I climbed down and there was a little box with something in it and a note (forgot what it said). But I've heard about geocaching before so I thought it might be one by what I found, so I went home and looked it up and it was indeed posted by someone locally on the geocache map on the website...
